Nuvvon Reports a Major Breakthrough in Solid-State Battery Scalability
Nuvvon, a leader in next-generation energy storage, is thrilled to announce a significant advancement in the scalability of solid-state batteries. The company plans to unveil its first samples of 1 Ah and 5 Ah solid-state rechargeable lithium-ion pouch cells this Fall.
“This is a pivotal moment for Nuvvon,” said Jonathan Lex, Chief Operating Officer of Nuvvon Inc. “While we have always asserted that our technology is inherently scalable and compatible with existing lithium-ion manufacturing processes, our initial focus was on enhancing our materials science. Now, we have validated our approach by successfully producing larger format cells, which paves the way for quicker commercialization.”
The transition from 72 mAh to 1 Ah and 5 Ah pouch cells demonstrates that Nuvvon’s technology is advancing beyond laboratory-scale prototypes. Key performance features of Nuvvon’s solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) technology include:
– Over 2000 cycle life (1C/1C)
– NMC811 cathode
– A wide operating temperature range of -20 °C to +60 °C (-4 °F to 140 °F)
– A completely solid composition, with no liquid electrolyte in any part of the cell
– Successful completion of all common safety tests (such as nail penetration and thermal runaway)
– Operational stability at atmospheric pressure (no stack pressure required)
– Manufactured in the USA
Full performance data is available upon request.
“Progress has accelerated beyond our expectations since our expanded team moved into our new, larger facility,” stated Dr. Simon Madgwick, CEO of Nuvvon. “We are confident that our product is unique—a completely solid, compressionless cell—now available at commercial grade and produced entirely using existing lithium-ion processes. It has required a great deal of hard work, and after some ongoing testing, we will soon be ready to accept orders for pilot samples.”
Nuvvon will begin with a baseline product that potential partners can request to evaluate and test. Concurrently, the company will focus on developing fast charge/discharge variants and extreme temperature models tailored to specific customer applications. Additionally, cells with capacities of 10-20 Ah will be available upon request.
