Yushu Technology has unveiled the world’s first mass-produced manned mech, which is designed for civilian transportation. On May 12, the company introduced the GD01, a transformable mech that weighs approximately 500 kilograms when carrying a passenger and is capable of walking, transforming, and carrying individuals.
The GD01 supports both bipedal upright walking and quadrupedal crawling modes, with a starting price of 3.9 million RMB (approximately 730,000 SGD). According to reports from Pioneer News and other Chinese media, the mech’s size is comparable to that of a large truck. Yushu Technology’s founder, Wang Xingxing, demonstrated the mech’s capabilities by taking it for a drive in its upright walking mode. Promotional videos also show the GD01 able to punch through a brick wall effortlessly.
In its bipedal mode, the GD01 can navigate city streets, making turns and adapting to everyday urban environments. When switched to quadrupedal mode, it can climb stairs and handle slopes and various extreme terrains. Wang Xingxing shared a video of the mech, captioning it with, “Is this what everyone has been looking forward to? Bringing science fiction into reality, the manned mech has transitioned from concept prototype to mass production for civilian use.”
Despite the hefty price tag for the manned transformable mech, some netizens likened it to Transformers, describing it as “very cool.” Others, however, questioned its practicality as a civilian transportation tool, emphasizing that the true value of such robots lies in their functionality.
Yushu Technology is one of the “Six Little Dragons” from Hangzhou and is currently one of the most notable startups in China’s embodied intelligence sector. It is projected that by 2025, the shipment of humanoid robots will exceed 5,500 units, capturing 32.4% of the global market.
