Trina Solar Files Patent for Innovative Photovoltaic Cell and Module to Enhance Efficiency

Trina Solar Limited has filed for a patent on a new type of photovoltaic (PV) cell and module aimed at enhancing the efficiency of solar cells. According to information from the State Intellectual Property Office, the patent, titled “A Photovoltaic Cell and Photovoltaic Module,” was published under the number CN120035229A and was filed on April 2025.

The abstract of the patent reveals that the invention involves a photovoltaic cell that comprises a cell body and several raised strips made of adhesive positioned on the light-receiving surface of the cell body. The refractive index of these strips is less than that of the cell body, while their light transmittance is at least 90%. The refractive index of the strips ranges from 1.54 to 1.68.

This innovation aims to create a protective barrier during the stacking process of the solar cells by incorporating the adhesive strips on the light-receiving surface. The refractive index of the strips is designed to be between that of the cell surface and the refractive index of the encapsulant. This configuration helps to form a light-trapping structure on the surface of the cell after the module is packaged, thereby enhancing the conversion efficiency of the solar cells.
