Sunshine Power made a significant appearance at the 4th Shanghai International Charging and Battery Swap Exhibition on May 14, 2025. The company showcased its globally leading, fully self-developed light-storage-charging system solutions and high-quality ultra-fast charging solutions for heavy-duty trucks. As the adoption of new energy heavy trucks accelerates, challenges regarding the efficiency, reliability, and economic viability of charging infrastructure have emerged. Summer Lijian, Deputy General Manager of Sunshine Power’s Charging Division, noted during the Heavy-Duty Truck Charging and Electric Vehicle Ultra-Fast Charging Development Forum that charging scenarios for heavy trucks can be categorized into medium and long-distance, as well as short-distance and specialized types. These scenarios may face extreme environmental conditions such as high temperatures, extreme cold, high humidity, heavy sandstorms, and high salt spray. In response, Sunshine Power has developed charging products with enhanced environmental adaptability, featuring high protection levels and long service lives to ensure stable operation under extreme conditions.

Summer emphasized that Sunshine Power adheres to the research and development philosophy of “optimizing total lifecycle costs”. The company focuses not only on charging efficiency but also on the long-term reliability and economic performance of its products, helping customers achieve the operational goal of “one-time investment with continuous benefits”. Currently, Sunshine Power has planned a comprehensive product matrix for heavy-duty truck ultra-fast charging, covering 400kW, 720kW, and megawatt-level solutions that cater to various fueling needs in both medium and long-distance logistics and short-distance specialized scenarios.

To accelerate the electrification of heavy trucks, the collaboration of light-storage-charging systems is essential. The transition to electric heavy trucks demands significant clean power and sensitivity to charging costs. Although solar power can provide low-cost green electricity, it does have intermittent availability. Energy storage systems can store excess solar energy and release it during peak usage times, smoothing out generation fluctuations and reducing charging prices. Integrating renewable energy generation (solar power and storage) with charging stations to create a “light-storage-charging integrated system” is a core approach to enhancing the absorption capacity of new energy and alleviating grid pressure. Leveraging its fully self-developed capabilities in light-storage-charging, Sunshine Power has successfully integrated solar generation, energy storage systems, and charging stations to dynamically meet high-power charging demands without relying on grid expansion. Its commercial and industrial light-storage-charging solutions have been widely applied in China, Europe, and Australia.

For instance, the recently launched Wuhan light-storage-charging project features a 310kWp solar power system, a 10MWh energy storage system, and nine sets of 480kW isolated air-cooled ultra-fast charging devices, totaling 16 ultra-fast charging guns and 38 fast charging guns capable of simultaneously meeting the rapid fueling needs of 54 new energy vehicles. The facility focuses on charging station operations at its core, utilizing an EMS system to automatically manage energy, effectively lowering electricity costs and significantly enhancing investment returns.

As the popularity of renewable energy and heavy-duty truck electrification continues to grow, the large-scale integration of charging stations into the grid demands higher flexibility and stability from the power system. Traditional low-voltage distribution systems face significant losses and low efficiency when dealing with high-power equipment or long-distance transmission, making them inadequate for the transition towards greater efficiency and lower losses in the power system. Sunshine Power has made substantial investments in medium-voltage direct connection technology, which eliminates the need for traditional 10 kV transformers by directly connecting power conversion devices to the 10 kV grid, achieving power conversion and vehicle charging. This technology enhances power density, reduces operational costs, and makes charging facilities more compact and economical, suitable for various scenarios including heavy-duty trucks and passenger vehicles.

At this exhibition, Sunshine Power showcased its cutting-edge technological achievements and innovative practices in the new energy sector. The company presented mature light-storage-charging integrated solutions and made breakthroughs in medium-voltage direct connection technology, offering innovative pathways for the construction of high-power charging infrastructure for heavy trucks. These achievements underscore the company’s technological leadership, providing efficient, stable, and cost-effective system solutions to support the high-quality development of the new energy heavy-duty truck industry.
