Sungrow Unveils the Innovative PowerTitan 3.0 Energy Storage System Platform

Sungrow, a global leader in inverter and energy storage solutions, has announced the launch of its groundbreaking PowerTitan 3.0 Energy Storage System (ESS) Platform, designed for utility-scale applications. This cutting-edge system is engineered to navigate the increasingly complex and dynamic clean energy landscape, offering unmatched flexibility, power density, intelligence, and safety. The entire PowerTitan 3.0 portfolio is ready for immediate commercial deployment.
### PowerTitan 3.0: Key Innovations Delivering Multi-Dimensional Value
The PowerTitan 3.0 ESS Platform is equipped with an integrated modular library of scenario-based functions. All functional modules are standardized and can be deployed according to specific scenario requirements without the need for redesign. This single platform allows for multiple combinations suitable for diverse global applications.
The system breaks free from the limitations of fixed container sizes, offering an initial launch in three versions: a 10ft Flex version with a capacity of 3.45MWh, a 20ft Class version with a capacity of 6.9MWh, and a 30ft Plus version with a capacity of 12.5MWh. It supports durations ranging from 2 to 12 hours and maintains stable performance in extreme conditions, operating effectively in temperatures from -40°C to +55°C (-40°F to +131°F) and at altitudes up to 5,000 meters (16,404 feet) without performance degradation.
### Redefining the Battery Cell: 684Ah Breakthrough
For projects requiring high capacity and cost-effectiveness, the PowerTitan 3.0 Plus version features a powerful 684Ah stacking large battery cell. This innovation delivers up to 12.5MW/50MWh per AC block, making it the world’s highest power density Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with over 500kWh per square meter. The design allows back-to-back installation with only 20mm spacing, resulting in a more compact layout.
In a 1 GWh-scale project, the overall system design reduces land usage by 45% and cabling needs by 10%, significantly decreasing capital expenditures (CAPEX). The 684Ah stacking battery cell is the first of its kind to enter mass production, boasting a higher energy density of 448Wh per liter and a cycle life exceeding 15,000 cycles.
Safety is a top priority, with pioneering Thermo-Electric Separation technology that resets cell vents and internal pack exhaust channels, combined with patented heat-insulating layers. This ensures that high-temperature gases do not damage battery components, prevents gas propagation, and mitigates the risk of thermal runaway affecting adjacent cells.
### Industry-First Large-Scale Application of Fully Liquid-Cooled SiC PCS
The PowerTitan 3.0 also introduces the industry’s first large-scale application of a fully liquid-cooled Silicon Carbide Power Conversion System (SiC PCS), offering a power capacity of 450kW per unit. This system achieves a remarkable maximum efficiency of 99.3% and a round-trip efficiency (RTE) of 93.5%. It enables full-power operation even in extreme heat conditions of 55°C, making it particularly suitable for high-temperature regions.
### Rapid Deployment and Intelligent Operation & Maintenance
Designed for rapid deployment, the PowerTitan 3.0 features pre-installed, pre-debugged, and block-level pre-integration, along with intelligent parameter configuration at the factory. This allows for one-click automated configuration and inspection on-site, reducing deployment time by 17 days for a 1GWh project.
The product incorporates intelligent functions, including Sungrow’s PowerBidder—an Electricity Market Trading System developed to minimize risks and enhance profits from electricity trading operations. Additionally, the PowerDoctor Operation & Maintenance (O&M) tool can predict over 30 fault types with more than 99% diagnostic accuracy, providing guided repairs for proactive maintenance.
### Built-in Grid-Forming Capabilities
The PowerTitan 3.0 is equipped with Sungrow’s Stem-Cell Grid-Forming Tech 2.0, which anticipates grid disturbances before they escalate, ensuring that energy storage responds proactively. The system facilitates synchronous grid-forming for renewables and energy storage, offering GW-scale black start capability and seamless mode switching between grid-following and grid-forming. It adapts to a wide range of Short Circuit Ratio (SCR) changes (1-40) and enables rapid responses of 20 milliseconds, along with 90° symmetrical/asymmetrical phase angle jumps.
These features support fast grid recovery, maximize ancillary service revenue, and ensure reliability across all grid scenarios, including generation, transmission, microgrids, and consumption endpoints.
