Strengthening the Safety Lifeline: Trina Storage Welcomes the Strictest Energy Storage Safety Regulations with Robust Quality Management!

On May 13, 2025, the East China Energy Regulatory Bureau released the “Work Plan for Enhancing the Essential Safety of Electrochemical Energy Storage Power Stations.” This plan emphasizes the core principles of “completely eliminating safety risks, implementing strict safety admissions, phasing out outdated equipment, promoting advanced technology, and empowering through science and technology.” The goal is to phase out severely safety-threatening processes and systems by the end of 2025 and to complete safety upgrades for all operating power stations by the end of 2026. By the end of 2027, a significant improvement in the essential safety levels of energy storage power stations across the province is expected.

The plan strictly prohibits any units that have experienced safety production accidents within the past year from participating in new project constructions. Additionally, starting January 2026, all new power stations must pass battery quality inspections and fire safety system assessments before they can commence operations. The regulatory efficacy is further enhanced through paperless management and precise risk alerts.

According to the latest statistics from the CESA Energy Storage Application Branch’s industry database, there were 12 energy storage safety incidents globally in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 40% increase compared to the same period last year. The introduction of these new regulations is timely and is expected to promote a shift in industry safety management from “remedial actions post-incident” to “fundamental prevention.” This involves early detection, warning, and resolution of risks through targeted special rectification and digital supervision, promoting high-quality integration of energy storage power station construction and operation.

As the first energy storage manufacturer to release a “System Safety Reliability White Paper,” Trina Storage is committed to developing system safety solutions. By enhancing intrinsic safety design and perfecting the quality management system, Trina ensures that every stage from product design to production and operation meets the highest safety standards.

Beginning in early 2023, Trina Storage advanced its fully self-developed industrial layout, from cell and battery pack to PCS and BMS, establishing a multi-platform collaborative R&D system that lays a solid foundation for product quality. During manufacturing, over 4,000 process control points rigorously monitor the precision of cell coating and liquid injection. The products undergo automotive-grade cell safety testing and dozens of acceptance quality inspections, validating product reliability and ensuring all batches meet stringent quality standards.

With localized system integration centers across the Asia-Pacific, North America, and Europe, and a delivery network spanning over 100 countries, Trina Storage showcases exceptional global delivery and service capabilities. Even when facing complex and harsh environments such as high temperatures, high humidity, salt mist, and dust storms, it provides rapid-response lifecycle support.

In terms of product technology, the Elementa series liquid-cooled energy storage systems effectively balance high power density and localized protection through the integration of modular fire-resistant barrier units, significantly enhancing accident isolation and thermal management performance. The systems are equipped with an AI-driven cloud monitoring and risk warning platform, enabling 24/7 operational status monitoring and intelligent fault diagnosis, which provides robust support for emergency response.

Currently, this series not only meets rigid standards including GB, UL, IEC, UN, BS, and EN but has also passed supplementary certifications for performance and safety testing, such as GB/T 36276 and IEEE 693, along with completing full-pack combustion tests under the supervision of the China Academy of Building Research, ensuring multifaceted safety for power stations.

While energy storage safety knows no limits, it must adhere to certain boundaries. By maintaining these boundaries, energy storage can achieve rapid and high-quality development. In response to increasingly stringent regulatory demands, Trina Storage will continue to intensify its focus on safety, driving upgrades through innovation, and setting safety benchmarks for electrochemical energy storage power stations in East China, across the country, and even globally, facilitating a steady transition towards an era of intrinsic safety in the industry.
