Otobro Launches Rail-Based Box Robot to Enhance Space Utilization Amid Labor Shortages

Otobro

Otobro has announced the launch of its Rail-Based Box Robot, a solution aimed at optimizing high storage levels and addressing labor shortages in sectors such as e-commerce, retail, third-party logistics, and manufacturing, which often experience high-frequency picking.

In response to the challenges posed by multi-SKU and small-batch picking, as well as significant fluctuations in demand, the system focuses on two main objectives: maximizing warehouse space utilization and improving the speed and efficiency of outbound logistics. The core concept of this system is to transform the traditional “picking from the shelf” method into a “goods-to-person” approach.

The system operates through coordinated vertical access and automated transportation, minimizing personnel movement in aisles and reducing waiting times. This enhances the picking process to be more standardized and closer to a rhythmic flow, making on-site management easier and more consistent.

To cater to various industries and warehouse conditions, Otobro will assess the implementation of this solution on a project basis. This includes evaluating the SKU structure, expected traffic, and space limitations to determine the appropriate number of stations, storage planning, and expansion cadence. The implementation can be phased and validated, allowing for gradual scaling according to operational demands and peak seasons.

The Rail-Based Box Robot features a design focused on narrow aisle operation, high-density storage, and modular expansion, making it suitable for rapid scaling and high turnover warehousing scenarios. The system can support cold chain environments (down to -25°C), with rack heights reaching up to 9 meters, maximum speeds of 3 m/s, and an average loading/unloading time of about 4 seconds. It can also work in conjunction with the Submersible Lifting Robot and directly connect to conveyor lines, integrating with existing sorting and processing equipment to enhance overall operational efficiency and flexibility.

Otobro emphasizes that “warehouse automation should not be a one-time gamble; it should be an investment that can be broken down, validated, and scaled alongside business growth.” The launch of the Rail-Based Box Robot solution aims to help clients achieve higher density and efficiency within real-world constraints, ensuring operations are stable and controllable.
