NLC India Arm Secures TNGECL Contract for Standalone BESS Projects
NLC India Ltd announced on June 22, 2025, that its subsidiary has successfully secured a contract from Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd (TNGECL) to develop standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. This marks NLC India Ltd’s first large-scale venture into the Battery Energy Storage System sector.
NLC India Renewables Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of NLC India Ltd, received a Letter of Award (LoA) from TNGECL for the development of three standalone BESS projects. These projects will have a combined capacity of 250 MW/500 MWh and will feature complete two cycles of charging and discharging for on-demand usage, as stated in a filing to the BSE by the public sector undertaking.
The implementation of these projects will follow the build-own-operate model, with support from viability gap funding. The contract was awarded through a competitive bidding process.
In addition, NLC India Ltd reported a significant increase in its consolidated profit, which surged over four-fold to Rs 468.46 crore in the March quarter of FY25. NLC is primarily engaged in lignite mining and power generation, and it has expanded its operations into renewable energy and coal mining both in India and internationally.
