Focus on “Artificial Intelligence + Education”: The 2026 World Digital Education Conference is approaching, with companies such as Yushu and Alibaba included in the visiting itinerary. From May 11 to 13, 2026, the Ministry of Education and the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government will jointly host the conference in Hangzhou, following approval from the State Council. This event will explore the theme of “Artificial Intelligence + Education: Transformative Development and Governance.”
According to information shared at a press conference held by the Ministry of Education on May 7, the conference aims to discuss global trends and new opportunities in the intersection of artificial intelligence and education. It will also address how AI can drive systemic changes in education and promote high-quality educational development while establishing a new framework for inclusive, safe, and sustainable global education governance.
From 2023 to 2025, the Ministry of Education successfully held the World Digital Education Conference for three consecutive years, with each event growing in scale and international participation, thereby enhancing its brand influence. Yang Dan, Director of the Ministry’s International Cooperation and Exchange Department, stated that the 2026 conference will strive to produce new highlights in terms of achievement design, organizational format, venue effectiveness, and subsequent impacts.
This year, the conference will focus on three main segments: “leading the frontier,” “empowering practice,” and “building global consensus,” with the announcement of eight significant achievements. These will include upgraded practical platforms and representative research outcomes, along with development standards and initiatives for future cooperation.
The conference will feature an immersive visual experience during the opening ceremony, creating an atmosphere that reflects the deep integration of technology and education, as well as future learning modalities. The event has garnered extensive global attention and positive responses, with over 500 international guests expected to attend, marking a historic high in the diversity and caliber of attendees.
During the conference, there will be seven designated “Digital Education Hangzhou Tour” routes, each thoughtfully paired with “three ones”: one school, one enterprise, and one cultural landmark. These routes will encompass schools at various educational levels, including K-12, vocational, and higher education, and will feature renowned high-tech companies such as Yushu Technology and Alibaba, showcasing Hangzhou’s digital vibrancy and cultural heritage.
The theme of “Artificial Intelligence + Education” will be further emphasized through four key aspects, as noted by Shu Hua, Deputy Director of the Ministry’s Science and Technology and Informationization Department. The guest lineup highlights AI leadership, parallel sessions centered on AI themes, and exhibitions showcasing AI characteristics, culminating in a consensus on AI-related achievements.
The conference will invite Nobel Prize and Fields Medal laureates, as well as academicians and presidents from renowned universities worldwide. Their reports will focus on the intersection of artificial intelligence and education. Additionally, young scientists and leading enterprises in the AI field will participate to discuss innovations in “Artificial Intelligence + Education.”
Simultaneously, the Global Digital Education Achievements Exhibition will feature 118 selected outstanding practical cases, demonstrating innovative applications of intelligent technology across teaching models, learning methods, school governance, and technological innovation, especially in promoting equitable quality education, empowering personalized student development, and enhancing lifelong learning opportunities for all.
