CTIMES/SmartAuto – Physical AI Year: Humanoid Robots Transition from Laboratory to Large-Scale Production
As the CES 2026 and the latest report from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR) are released, 2026 is officially established as the year of large-scale application for Physical AI. Unlike previous generations of robots that could only operate in controlled environments, the new generation of humanoid robots, such as the Tesla Optimus and Unitree G1, are now capable of performing tasks in unstructured environments and are beginning to enter homes and factory production lines. The core of this technological advancement lies in breakthroughs in the Visual Language Action (VLA) model and Agentic AI.
The IFR indicates that robots with autonomous planning and adaptability are driving the global robotics market value to new heights. For example, the G1 model from China’s Unitree Technology not only demonstrates smooth dynamic balancing capabilities but also features a high-density battery and high-torque joints, allowing it to achieve unprecedented performance despite weighing only 50 kilograms. This showcases that hardware integration has reached industrial-grade mass production standards.
In terms of commercialization, Robotics as a Service (RaaS) is becoming mainstream. Agility Robotics has signed long-term cooperation agreements with major manufacturers such as Toyota, deploying bipedal robots in logistics and warehousing centers. Experts analyze that this trend, which deeply integrates IT data processing capabilities with OT physical control, will effectively alleviate global labor shortages and is expected to drive double-digit growth in related peripheral industries (such as industrial robot lubricants and precision sensors) before 2030.
