ONGC and Tata Power Renewable Sign MoU for Battery Energy Storage Systems
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) has entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Ltd. This collaboration aims to explore opportunities within the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) value chain. The agreement was announced during the third edition of India Energy Week 2025.
The focus of this partnership includes utility-scale energy storage systems, grid stabilization, and ancillary services. Additionally, it will address renewable energy integration, hybrid solutions, and applications for industrial and commercial energy storage. The collaboration will also extend to microgrid and backup power solutions, as well as the development of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
Arun Kumar Singh, chairman and CEO of ONGC, stated, “This collaboration with Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd represents a strategic step towards enhancing energy storage capabilities, which are essential for grid stability and the adoption of renewable energy.”
The partnership is expected to combine the strengths of both ONGC and TPREL, driving innovation and growth in the energy storage sector. Deepesh Nanda, CEO and MD of TPREL, emphasized that Battery Energy Storage Systems will play a critical role in improving grid reliability, facilitating greater renewable energy integration, and supporting India’s ambitious clean energy objectives.
