Micromax Ventures into Solar Panel Manufacturing with Startup Energy
By Sangita Shetty – 26th February 2025
Indian electronics brand Micromax Informatics is making strides in the renewable energy sector by launching Startup Energy, a new venture dedicated to solar panel manufacturing. In collaboration with Jinchen, a Chinese solar equipment manufacturer, Micromax aims to produce affordable, high-quality solar panels suitable for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
As part of this initiative, Micromax has entered into a strategic agreement with Jinchen to establish a 5GW advanced solar module manufacturing facility. This project will unfold in several phases, utilizing automation and high-efficiency production technologies to provide cost-effective and sustainable solutions. The facility will employ advanced precision engineering to boost manufacturing capabilities.
Furthermore, Startup Energy intends to collaborate with research and development (R&D) partners to investigate next-generation solar technologies, with a particular emphasis on enhancing energy efficiency and long-term sustainability. Rajesh Agarwal, Managing Director of Micromax Informatics, stated that with Startup Energy, the company is leveraging its expertise to enhance the renewable energy sector, making clean power more accessible, reliable, and affordable.
Micromax’s entry into solar energy aligns with India’s self-reliance mission and the government’s ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. With India’s installed solar capacity exceeding 72 GW as of 2023, the demand for locally manufactured, high-quality solar panels is on the rise—an opportunity that Startup Energy aims to seize.
