Lyten Acquires Northvolt’s Energy Storage Systems Factory in Poland to Expand Operations

Lyten

US startup Lyten is set to acquire Northvolt Dwa ESS, the largest energy storage systems factory in Europe, located in Poland, in a strategic move to broaden its product offerings. The facility, situated in Gdansk, was previously closed following Northvolt’s bankruptcy, which was one of the largest corporate failures in Sweden and signaled the end of Europe’s aspirations to develop a competitive alternative to Chinese battery manufacturers.

According to Lyten’s CEO and co-founder, Dan Cook, operations at the plant will resume immediately to fulfill existing and new customer orders. The Gdansk facility, which spans 25,000 square meters (approximately 269,000 square feet), opened its doors in 2023 and is equipped for manufacturing battery energy storage systems with a capacity of up to 6 gigawatt-hours. There is also room to expand this capacity to 10 GWh in the future, with orders already contracted through 2026.

While the financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed, it is expected to be finalized in the third quarter of this year. This acquisition represents a significant opportunity for Lyten to enhance its position in the energy storage market.
