Israel Launches 1.5 GW Energy Storage Initiative with 11 New Projects

Israel

The Israeli Electricity Authority (IEA) has recently awarded contracts for a total of 1.5 GW of high-voltage battery storage capacity across 11 projects in three regions of Israel. This tender attracted 11 bidders, who proposed 29 projects with a combined capacity of 4 GW. The set capacity tariffs range between US$49.41/kWh and US$74.20/kWh.

In the Western Negev region, the companies Noy Storage, Enlight, and EDF are set to construct 4 facilities with a total capacity of 560 MW. In the northern part of the country, B-Lite, Noy Agira, Allied, and Ormat will develop 4 facilities with a cumulative capacity of 520 MW. Meanwhile, in the Arava region, Enlight and EDF will build 3 facilities with a total capacity of 420 MW.

The estimated investment for these projects is approximately ILS3 billion (US$840 million), with operations expected to commence in 2027. These facilities are designed to enhance the integration of renewable energy into Israel’s power grid by facilitating the deployment of large-scale energy storage systems.
