The 13th International Energy Storage Summit and Exhibition (ESIE2025) kicked off on April 10, 2025, at the Capital International Exhibition Center in Beijing, marking a significant event in the global energy storage industry. The summit is co-hosted by the Zhongguancun Energy Storage Industry Technology Alliance, the China Energy Research Society, and the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This year’s summit focuses on the theme, “Empowering Industrial Transformation through Digital Intelligence, and Reshaping the Energy Landscape with Energy Storage.” Over 1,000 participants from domestic and international government departments, research institutions, power grid companies, power generation groups, and leading enterprises in the energy storage industry attended the opening ceremony. Online coverage through Xinhua News Agency and the video account of the Zhongguancun Energy Storage Industry Technology Alliance reached over 2.3 million viewers.
This year's summit set new records with a total exhibition area of 160,000 square meters, nearly 800 exhibitors, over 50 conference activities, and more than 100 new product launches. On the first day alone, 50,000 people visited the exhibition in person.
<b>Prominent Speakers and Guests</b> included Shi Yuping, Chairman of the China Energy Research Society; Bian Guangqi, Deputy Director of the Energy Conservation and Technology Equipment Department of the National Energy Administration; Zhou Haiyan, Second-level Inspector of the Electronic Information Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; and Meng Qingqiang, Chief Engineer of the State Grid. Notable academicians in attendance were Yang Yusheng from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhou Xiaoxin from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Sun Shigang from Xiamen University, among others.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Liu Wei, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Zhongguancun Energy Storage Industry Technology Alliance.
<b>Market Transformation Insights</b> highlight that the energy storage industry is currently at a critical juncture in its market-oriented transformation. The introduction of Document No. 136 signifies a profound shift from policy-driven initiatives to market-led developments. Bian Guangqi emphasized that the National Energy Administration will continue to promote the development of new energy storage technologies and industries, focusing on four key areas: enhancing forward-looking planning, vigorously supporting technological innovation, guiding rational resource allocation, and fostering healthy industrial development.
Additionally, the National Energy Administration aims to accelerate the construction of the power spot market, improve auxiliary service market trading varieties, and collaborate with relevant departments to refine the pricing mechanism for new energy storage, contributing to the high-quality development of the new energy storage industry.
Zhou Haiyan stated that future efforts will concentrate on reinforcing industry standards, implementing lithium battery industry regulations, and guiding the storage battery industry towards technological advancement and transformation in response to new energy storage development and application needs.
At the summit, Shi Yuping proposed three initiatives: enhancing innovation leadership by focusing on frontier technologies like solid-state batteries and new battery systems; improving market mechanisms to accelerate the design of capacity pricing, spot markets, and auxiliary service markets; and deepening international cooperation to promote the global expansion of China’s energy storage technologies and services.
Various activities were organized at the summit, including a <b>"Closed-Door Meeting for Energy Storage Leaders"</b> and a <b>"New Energy Storage and Power Market Forum"</b>, which facilitated discussions on key topics like pricing mechanisms and the construction of auxiliary service markets.
<b>Technical Innovations</b> were highlighted in a keynote report by He Yaling, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who discussed the development and trends of large-scale energy storage technologies. He emphasized that breakthroughs in technology could significantly alter human understanding and that innovation should focus on both disruptive and frontier technologies, addressing industry challenges such as cost and safety.
Wang Jifeng, Chief Engineer of the Southern Power Grid, noted the substantial demand for energy storage in the new power system and how it directly impacts the system's success. He advocated for enhanced supply reliability and economic efficiency through flexible energy storage configurations.
Chen Haisheng, Chairman of the Zhongguancun Energy Storage Industry Technology Alliance, presented a systematic overview of the advancements in China’s energy storage technologies and industries. He announced the release of the <b>"Energy Storage Industry Research White Paper 2025."</b> This year, the rapid development of energy storage technology is expected to lead to market expansion, with various technologies like solid-state lithium batteries and flow batteries gaining traction.
The summit also featured a series of forums discussing the integration of energy storage with various industries, including commercial and industrial applications. <b>High-level dialogues among energy storage leaders</b> focused on exploring sustainable development paths within the new energy landscape.
As the energy storage industry transitions from "scale expansion" to "value creation," this summit aims to provide a platform for exchanging ideas, sharing technologies, and fostering cooperation to drive policy reform, technological breakthroughs, and innovative business models that contribute to a global energy transition.
