Hou Qijun Attends ASEAN-China-GCC Economic Forum in Malaysia

On May 27, local time, Hou Qijun, General Manager of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), attended the opening ceremony of the ASEAN-China-GCC Economic Forum and listened to a speech by Premier Li Qiang. During the forum, he met with Taufiq, President and CEO of Petronas, and conducted research at CNPC’s operations in Malaysia.

On May 26, Hou participated in a promotional event for the Third Chain Expo in ASEAN, organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, where he also met with Secretary-General Boudawi of the GCC.

During his meeting with Taufiq on May 27, both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on enhancing practical cooperation in the fields of oil and gas, new energy, international trade, technological innovation, and green and low-carbon initiatives. Hou expressed that CNPC is willing to work with Petronas to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries. He emphasized the importance of leveraging their respective resources, technologies, and market advantages in the energy sector. He advocated for an open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial approach, focusing on key areas to strengthen technological exchanges and elevate energy cooperation to a higher level, contributing more to the China-Malaysia community of shared future.

Taufiq noted that both companies, being national oil corporations, aspire to further strengthen communication and actively explore new models of cooperation and business areas.

On May 28, Hou attended the ASEAN-China-GCC Economic Forum, where he focused on new trends in artificial intelligence. He listened to experts discussing the role of artificial intelligence in enhancing energy security, stabilizing supply chains, investing in energy infrastructure, and promoting green transitions.

During his stay in Malaysia, Hou visited Global Malaysia and Pipeline Bureau Malaysia, and conducted a video conference with the Global Malaysia team working on the maleic anhydride project. He gained insights into the companies’ production operations, project construction quality, timelines, safety, and environmental protection measures. He also took time to visit and encourage the staff working tirelessly in the field overseas.

He emphasized the need to maintain confidence and strive for progress, aligning development strategies with the national diplomatic landscape. He urged the team to focus on establishing a strong business presence in Southeast Asia while balancing development and safety, effectively managing various risks, promoting high-level construction of major engineering projects in the region, ensuring employee safety, and ensuring smooth project operations. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of integrating corporate culture with local cultures to create a strong brand in overseas project construction.

Officials from relevant headquarters departments participated in related activities.
