Future Prospects of Solid-State Batteries: Industry Growth Anticipated in the Next 5 Years

Future

Multi-directional backup power electric vehicle stations are on the rise, yet the production scale is still expected to require five more years. The launch date is set for May 19, 2025 according to the first financial publication by Fang Lin. The automotive industry is entering a new phase of technological advancement, focusing on smart grid technology and a new generation of electric vehicle batteries.

The China Electric Vehicle Association indicates that the technical development of electric vehicle batteries will reach a new milestone by 2025, with advancements in battery density and lifespan. Compared to liquid batteries, solid-state batteries have advantages in terms of safety, energy density, and lifespan.

According to a recent report from the China Electric Vehicle Association, the energy density of current liquid-state batteries has approached a threshold of approximately 350 Wh/kg, while solid-state batteries are projected to achieve energy densities exceeding 500 Wh/kg. This significant difference in product performance makes solid-state batteries a key focus for future development.

Despite this, the production costs of solid-state batteries remain high, with current estimates for production costs reaching 5 USD/Wh. However, over the past year, technological advancements in manufacturing have led to a gradual decrease in these costs. Current projections suggest that the price of solid-state batteries could reach 1000 USD/ton due to increased demand.

As of May 17, 2025, the China National Energy Administration announced plans to produce 1000 solid-state batteries within the next six months, with significant advancements already made in the production of solid-state batteries. The push for solid-state technology stems from the need to improve safety, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

In practical applications, solid-state batteries are expected to be used in electric vehicles, with energy densities reaching 400 Wh/kg and a continuous range of 1500 km anticipated by 2025. Companies like SAIC and others are already beginning to implement the first generation of solid-state batteries in their new models.

Furthermore, by 2027, the industry aims to initiate large-scale production of solid-state batteries, with expectations that they will be capable of powering larger vehicles by 2030.

In conclusion, the shift from liquid to solid-state batteries represents a significant advancement in battery technology, addressing both industry demands and environmental concerns. The focus now is on optimizing production methods and reducing costs, which will help solid-state batteries become a mainstream option in the automotive sector by the end of the decade.
