The 2025 International Digital Energy Exhibition took place successfully from September 18 to 21 at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, themed “Shenzhen AI Energy: Creating the Future.” This international event focused on the digital transformation of the global energy sector, creating an innovative ecological platform spanning 50,000 square meters, providing a “Chinese solution” and a “Shenzhen model” for the global energy revolution.

Yang Kun, Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive Vice Chairman of the China Electricity Council, stated in his speech that the deep integration of digital technology and energy revolution is becoming a new engine for global economic growth. Zhōu Jiànjūn, Vice President of Huawei and President of Huawei’s Global Marketing Service System for Digital Energy, shared insights on all-scenario networking technology and global practices. By developing two types of basic hardware, dual architectures, and intelligent algorithms, they have addressed the stability challenges of integrating high proportions of renewable energy into the grid. This technology has been successfully validated in global projects, such as the world’s largest 100% renewable microgrid in Saudi Arabia and the Yalong River water-solar complementary power station in Sichuan, China, ensuring the safe and stable operation of the grid.

The Director of the Power Science Research Institute at BYD’s Energy Storage and New Battery Division, Cao Hu, launched the next generation of energy storage products named “Hao Han,” which boasts a unit capacity of 14.5 MWh. This product achieves a volume capacity density increase of 51.4%, with a system volume utilization rate reaching 52.1%, the highest in the industry. Experts from Shenzhen Nuclear Power Engineering Design Co., Ltd. and ZheJiang Kesheng Technology Co., Ltd. jointly presented innovations from the world’s largest single-tower 350 MW solar thermal project. The project utilizes a distributed thermal storage solution with three towers and one machine, successfully breaking through the challenges of controlling ultra-large mirror fields and molten salt storage technology, thus reducing the cost of electricity to 0.55 RMB per kWh. Through collaborative innovation along the industrial chain, they anticipate further reductions in electricity costs by 2035, accelerating solar thermal energy’s transition to a cost-competitive and stable green baseload power source.

Xu Yunfei, a member of the Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission and Deputy Director of the Greater Bay Area Office, introduced the 2025 Shenzhen Digital Energy White Paper, which outlines the implementation path for building a global pioneer city in digital energy. The white paper focuses on six major areas: source, network, load, storage, digital, and carbon, aiming to establish the world’s first Super Charging City 2.0, a unified power charging and storage network, and a virtual power plant management cloud platform as three key city initiatives. By creating four major centers, nurturing top 100 leading enterprises, and providing ten solutions, this initiative aims to propel Shenzhen’s digital energy technologies, products, and models to a three-tiered leap from demonstration to national and global prominence, contributing Shenzhen’s wisdom to the global energy transition.

An electric heavy truck section was set up, featuring nearly 10 electric heavy trucks from seven key enterprises, including BYD, Kaiwo, Dongfeng, GAC, Xugong, Deepway, and Daiweihongde, showcasing the “Super Charging City” 2.0 speed of Shenzhen. Companies like Huawei and Xinwangda demonstrated the deep application of AI algorithms in energy forecasting and operation optimization. The Clean and Low-Carbon Exhibition area presented innovations in carbon neutrality pathways, including CCUS technology and carbon asset management tools.
