Global Energy Storage Breakthrough! Solar Energy Company Secures 1.6 GWh Contract
On May 28, 2025, at 09:47, the market reported that Solar Energy Company has successfully secured a contract for 1.6 GWh of energy storage. This significant milestone is set to enhance the company’s capabilities in renewable energy solutions.
The contract includes a pivotal component with Zelestra, which has been designated to lead a critical project aimed at boosting energy storage capacity in the Asia-Pacific region. The initiative will utilize the PowerTitan 2.0 liquid battery storage system, along with power conversion systems (PCS), targeting an estimated capacity of 1 GWh.
This project is part of the broader Aurora initiative, which is expected to produce approximately 600 GWh of renewable energy annually, enough to power around 20 million households. The energy storage system (BESS) is projected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Leo Moreno, a representative of Zelestra, stated: “This contract is a crucial step for us. We have secured the most advanced energy storage technology available in the market, which will significantly enhance our capacity to provide renewable energy solutions.”
Furthermore, the PowerTitan liquid battery system will also be employed in the 200 MW/800 MWh BESS del Desierto project, developed by Atlas Renewable Energy, which has been ongoing since April of this year. Solar Energy Company has also committed to a project valued at 1.57 billion USD to construct a 120 MW/922.76 MWh energy storage system, expected to commence in August 2026.
Additionally, on May 26, Solar Energy Company announced a partnership with Globeleq for a BESS project in the region of 153 MW/612 MWh, which will have a 15-year service agreement. The Red Sands energy storage project is set to become the largest energy storage system in the area.
This project will utilize approximately 5 acres of land and will connect to the power grid via Eskom Garona power station. The main focus is on providing stable power supply and supporting the region’s renewable energy initiatives.
Solar Energy Company plans to supply its latest PowerTitan 2.0 liquid battery storage system in conjunction with the 15-year contract with Globeleq, ensuring long-term efficiency and high performance for the project.
The financial projections for the Red Sands BESS project indicate it will reach financial closure by 2025, with operations commencing in 2027. In total, the company has secured significant contracts, including a 7.8 GWh project in the region, a 4.4 GWh collaboration in Europe, and an 880 MWh agreement for a separate energy storage plant.
