On April 8th, the latest sales data for new energy vehicles in the first week of April was released by First Electric Network. During this period, China’s total sales of new energy vehicles reached 169,000 units, marking a significant decrease of 43.5% compared to the previous week, with a market penetration rate of 50.1%, remaining relatively stable compared to the last week of March.

In the ranking of new force automotive brands for weekly sales, Xpeng Motors secured the top spot, followed closely by Li Auto, Leap Motor, and Xiaomi Auto.

Xpeng Leads in Sales

Xpeng Motors achieved weekly sales of 7,500 units in the first week of April, representing a remarkable week-on-week increase of over 21%. According to reports from Xpeng, the Xpeng MONA M03 has maintained monthly deliveries exceeding 15,000 units for four consecutive months, while the Xpeng P7+ has accumulated over 40,000 units in deliveries since its launch four months ago. The growth in Xpeng’s sales can also be attributed to the progressive rollout of the new Xpeng G6 and G9 models.

Li Auto followed in second place with sales of 6,200 units in the same week, although this reflects a decrease of 29.55% compared to the 8,800 units sold during the thirteenth week (March 24-30). Leap Motor ranked third with weekly sales of 5,400 units, while Xiaomi Auto climbed to fourth place with 5,100 units sold. Wenjie and Deep Blue secured the fifth and sixth positions with sales of 4,800 units and 4,100 units, respectively. Following Deep Blue were Zeekr, Denza, ARCFOX, and NIO.

It is noteworthy that among the top ten new force brands in weekly sales, only Xpeng and Wenjie experienced a significant increase, while the remaining brands, including Xiaomi, Leap, NIO, Li Auto, Deep Blue, Zeekr, and Denza, all saw declines in sales. The decrease was particularly pronounced for NIO, ARCFOX, Leap, and Xiaomi, with declines exceeding 30%. NIO’s sales plummeted by 40%, causing it to be surpassed by ARCFOX, which now ranks tenth.

Furthermore, in the top ten list of new energy brands, aside from Wenjie and Xpeng, all other eight companies reported a drop in sales. Notably, BYD experienced a week-on-week decline of 25%, selling 45,000 units, yet still maintained the top position in the ranking. Geely Galaxy and Wuling followed closely behind. Xpeng’s sales surpassed Li Auto, placing it fourth, with Li Auto in fifth.

Additionally, Tesla saw a staggering week-on-week decrease of over 82%, falling from the top three to out of the top ten.

New Car Launches in April

April is set to witness a wave of new car launches in the Chinese automotive market, with several models spanning from 100,000 yuan to 1,000,000 yuan. In the new energy segment, models such as the BYD Han L, Wenjie M8, NIO Firefly, and Leap B10 are highly anticipated. Among joint venture brands, the Kia Sportage and Volvo XC90 will also make their debut.

As April began, many automotive companies started new promotional campaigns. For instance, Tesla China introduced a limited-time financing plan for the revamped Model Y, offering interest-free financing for three years and extremely low-interest financing for five years. The three-year interest-free plan requires a down payment starting at 79,900 yuan, while the five-year low-interest plan starts with a down payment of 45,900 yuan, resulting in monthly payments of approximately 3,809 yuan.

A sales representative from NIO in Beijing’s Chaoyang District informed reporters that NIO is currently offering four promotional options, including a direct price reduction of 46,000 yuan. Customers can choose to pay in full or take advantage of a two-year interest-free loan. For example, the standard model of the NIO ET5T, originally priced at 298,000 yuan, is now available for approximately 250,000 yuan after the discount. NIO is also providing additional incentives such as points and NOP driver assistance features.

Looking ahead to April, the China Automobile Circulation Association has stated, “The overall trend in the automotive market remains stable. With many regions hosting spring auto shows and several cities implementing consumption policies, alongside provincial subsidies, the automotive market is expected to heat up, leading to a rebound in market demand and sales, maintaining steady growth.”
