Wyn Power Corp. has officially begun construction on its 50-megawatt peak (MWp) solar power plant in Batangas. In a statement issued on March 5, the company announced it has broken ground on its ₱1.5 billion solar photovoltaic (PV) project located in Brgy. Bukal, Taysan, Batangas, which will cover an area of 48 hectares.

Once operational, the plant is expected to generate over 74 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy each year. It will connect to the grid via a 2.3-kilometer line that feeds into Batangas Electric Cooperative II’s (BATELEC II) 69 kilovolt (kV) transmission line.

Rodel B. Arada, the president and CEO of Wyn Power, highlighted that the project aims to meet the increasing energy demand in Batangas by adding capacity to the Luzon grid. “This 50 MWp addition to the Luzon grid will significantly benefit industries and consumers served by BATELEC II and nearby electric cooperatives,” he noted.

In addition to enhancing renewable energy integration into the power grid, Arada emphasized the project’s potential impact on the local economy through job creation and tax revenue generation. “We are proud that this project will help fulfill the country’s renewable energy ambitions while providing much-needed employment in the countryside,” he added.

The solar project has already completed a system impact study (SIS) endorsed by the Department of Energy (DOE), won a bid under the second Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP-2) in December 2023, and secured a green energy tariff of ₱4.10 per kWh.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by representatives from the DOE, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and local government officials. DOE Assistant Secretary Mario Marasigan referred to the project as a “testament to the collaboration between government and the private sector under the successful GEA-2.”

In addition to solar facilities and mini-hydro projects, Wyn Power has formed partnerships with various companies, including leisure and tourism development firms LandCo Pacific Corp. and Global-Estate Resorts Inc., as well as industrial firm EEI Corp. The company has also collaborated with Absolute Distillers Inc., Steel Asia, Aboitiz Land, Rockwell Land, SM Development Corp., and Nestlé.
