Western Land-Sea “Hydrogen Corridor” Begins Regular Operations
On April 14, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) announced the formal opening of China’s first cross-regional hydrogen energy heavy-duty truck corridor, which will now operate regularly. This Western Land-Sea “Hydrogen Corridor” starts in Chongqing and ends at Qinzhou Port in Guangxi, covering a distance of approximately 1,150 kilometers. Along the route, there are four hydrogen refueling stations that will promote logistics applications in the surrounding areas of Chongqing, Guizhou, and Guangxi.
The Western Land-Sea “Hydrogen Corridor” is China’s first logistics channel centered on hydrogen energy heavy-duty trucks. The four hydrogen stations in the first phase were all built by Sinopec and are located at Chongqing Ganshui, Guiyang Zongbao, Baise Weixin, and Nanning Zhenxing, creating a stable hydrogen supply network. The regions through which the corridor passes, including Chongqing Changshou, Guizhou Liupanshui, and Guangxi Baise, are rich in hydrogen energy resources. Technologies such as water electrolysis and ammonia decomposition for hydrogen production have achieved large-scale application, with industrial byproduct hydrogen production exceeding 400,000 tons annually, sufficient to support the demand for 360,000 logistics vehicles.
This “Hydrogen Corridor” is not only a logistics route but also an industrial link. Estimates indicate that the potential cargo volume along the main route could reach 220,000 standard containers per year. The corridor passes through key logistics hubs such as Chongqing’s highway logistics base, Guizhou’s express logistics park, and Nanning’s Shajing Jiangnan logistics park, presenting various application scenarios. The construction of the “Hydrogen Corridor” will fully leverage the resource and industrial advantages of the provinces and cities along the route, establishing a development framework that integrates a “green logistics system + hydrogen supply system + hydrogen industry innovation system,” thereby promoting deep integration of transportation, energy, and industry.
Yu Baocai, Senior Vice President of Sinopec, stated that in collaboration with Chongqing Petroleum, Sinopec has established the largest fuel cell hydrogen supply center in Southwest China, utilizing byproduct hydrogen without any existing domestic or international reference. The first phase has a hydrogen supply capacity of 3,200 kilograms per day, serving as a crucial storage facility for the construction of the “Hydrogen Corridor”. Chongqing Petroleum has taken the lead in establishing and operating seven hydrogen refueling stations, becoming the largest hydrogen refueling operator in Chongqing. Guangxi Petroleum has also built seven hydrogen stations, making it the largest supplier of vehicle hydrogen energy in Guangxi. Guizhou Petroleum has developed a construction template for hydrogen stations based on the Guiyang Zongbao No. 2 hydrogen station, laying the foundation for the development of hydrogen refueling business within the province.
