The Western Coastal Hydrogen Transportation Corridor is officially operational as of April 14, 2025. According to a report from China Stone, the corridor has begun carrying hydrogen produced by the country’s leading hydrogen energy enterprises, marking a significant step in hydrogen energy development in the region.
This hydrogen transportation corridor starts from a production base in the city of Shuangyashan and extends to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, covering a distance of approximately 1,150 kilometers. The corridor will feature four hydrogen refueling stations strategically located along the route to support operations and facilitate the supply of hydrogen to regions like Guangxi and Gansu.
The corridor is designed to enhance the production capacity of hydrogen energy in the Western Coastal Region, with the implementation of technologies such as electrolysis for hydrogen production and ammonia decomposition to generate hydrogen. The annual production capacity is projected to exceed 400,000 tons, meeting the demand for approximately 360,000 fuel cell vehicles.
Additionally, this corridor will not only facilitate the transportation of hydrogen but will also support the development of the hydrogen industry. Estimates indicate that the corridor will handle 220,000 standard containers per year, with an expected increase in demand due to the growing market for hydrogen-powered vehicles.
The construction of the Western Coastal Hydrogen Transportation Corridor aims to integrate resources and promote the development of hydrogen energy projects in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. This will create a comprehensive hydrogen supply chain, enhancing transportation efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
China Stone has highlighted the importance of this corridor not just as a logistical route but as a vital infrastructure for the hydrogen energy sector, which is expected to play a crucial role in the country’s energy transition.
