Launch of China’s First Large-Scale Lithium-Sodium Hybrid Energy Storage Station

On May 25, the first large-scale lithium-sodium hybrid energy storage station in China, the Baocai Energy Storage Station operated by the Southern Power Grid, officially commenced operations in Qiubei County, Yunnan Province. This station is part of the national pilot demonstration project for new energy storage and is one of the first concentrated shared new energy storage pilot projects in Yunnan. With a capacity of 200 MW/400 MWh, the station can adjust an annual power output of 580 million kWh, which is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of nearly 270,000 households, with a green energy ratio of up to 98%. The project was invested and constructed by the Southern Power Grid Energy Storage Company, which began construction in October 2024 and successfully completed testing and verification in May.

Inner Mongolia’s First Off-Grid Wind Power Project Achieves Full Capacity

On May 23, the first off-grid wind power project in Inner Mongolia, the Green Power Supply Project operated by the Three Gorges Group, successfully achieved full capacity grid connection. Located in the Ordos City, this project has a total installed capacity of 300,000 kW, featuring 48 wind turbines with a capacity of 6.25 MW each, along with a new energy storage system of 45,000 kW × 4 hours. It is expected to generate 870 million kWh annually, saving approximately 260,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon emissions by around 710,000 tons.

Huadian Yunnan Dali Shared Energy Storage Project Goes Live

On May 25 at 15:00, the Heqing Shared Energy Storage Project, constructed by Xinneng throughout its entire process, was fully commissioned. Construction commenced on February 16, 2025, and after successful grid connection of the booster station on May 15, full capacity was achieved in just 88 days.

New User-Side Energy Storage Project in Anhui Begins Operations

On the morning of May 25, a 37.5 MW/100.5 MWh user-side energy storage project in Hecun County, Ma’anshan City, commenced operations, coinciding with a project signing ceremony. With a total investment of 115 million yuan, this project is the first user-side lithium battery energy storage EPC project from Tianneng Holding Group and the largest benchmark project in Anhui. It employs an integrated model of “source-network-load-storage” with a lithium iron phosphate energy storage system.

Commercial Energy Storage Project in Zhoukou Begins Operation

On May 23, a commercial energy storage project invested by the Zhoukou Natural Gas Company officially began operation. This project marks a significant transition for the company from a single gas supply service to comprehensive energy service. Located in the Zhoukou Economic Development Zone, it features a storage system capacity of 2,500 kW/5,200 kWh and employs a customized service model to meet the energy needs of commercial users.

Gansu’s 300 MW/1200 MWh Independent Energy Storage Project Commences

On May 23, construction began on a 300 MW/1200 MWh independent energy storage project in Wuwei City, Gansu Province. With a total investment of 1.3 billion yuan, the project will utilize lithium iron phosphate battery technology and build a supporting 330 kV booster station.

Jiawei New Energy Launches 20 MW/40 MWh Storage Project in Sichuan

On May 23, a 20 MW/40 MWh energy storage project in Yuechi, Sichuan, officially commenced construction. The project will enhance the peak shaving capabilities of the regional power grid through intelligent equipment.

CSIC Wind Sail’s First Park-type User-Side Storage Project Online
