Recently, several energy storage stations have made significant progress. Below is a summary of developments in energy storage projects from April 14 to April 18, 2025:
200MW/400MWh: Wanliyang’s Independent Energy Storage Project in Foshan, Guangdong Starts Construction
On April 11, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Wanliyang Independent Energy Storage Project was held in Xijiang Industrial New Town, Gaoming District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province. Covering an area of 38 acres with a total investment of 800 million yuan, the project aims to establish a 200MW/400MWh independent energy storage station. This initiative, funded by Zhejiang Wanliyang Energy Technology Co., Ltd., is set to become a crucial hub for power frequency modulation and peak shaving in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
200MW/400MWh: Huaneng’s Shared Energy Storage Project in Qujing, Yunnan Officially Begins Construction
On April 10, the main body and line engineering of the Huaneng Huashan 200MW/400MWh Shared Energy Storage Project commenced with a ceremony. Located in Zhenyi District, Qujing City, Yunnan Province, the project consists of 40 energy storage units, each with a capacity of 5MW/10MWh. These units are divided into 8 subsystems, each comprising 5 units, resulting in a capacity of 25MW/50MWh per subsystem. Each subsystem connects to the energy storage booster station via 35kV cables. A 220kV booster station is also being constructed, with a proposed connection to the 220kV Lianjiao-Huashan line, covering approximately 2×0.35 km.
500kW/1075kWh: Zhejiang Hongyuan Knitting’s User-Side Energy Storage Project Connected to the Grid
On April 17, Zhejiang Hongyuan Knitting Co., Ltd. successfully connected its 500kW/1075kWh user-side energy storage project to the grid. Utilizing lithium iron phosphate storage technology, the system includes a metering device, distribution system, fire protection system, battery management system, lighting system, and safety facilities. The stored energy will be used for the company’s internal needs, following a “peak shaving and valley filling, self-storage and self-use” model.
Xinwandah Signs Contract for 400MWh Independent Energy Storage Project in Yancheng, Jiangsu
On the afternoon of April 15, Xinwandah Smart Energy Company signed a cooperation framework agreement with the management committee of the Suzhou Yancheng Coastal Development Zone in Dafeng District, Jiangsu Province. The partners will jointly develop a net-side independent energy storage project with a scale of 200MW/400MWh. This project will serve as a large-scale independent energy storage station in the region, playing a vital role in the establishment of a new power system in Yancheng and Jiangsu Province.
Guangdong’s First “Flywheel + Lithium Battery” Hybrid Energy Storage Station Launched
On April 16, during a promotional event for new energy and energy storage applications in Guangzhou, Guangzhou Hengyun Enterprise Group Co., Ltd. and Huachi Dynamics (Beijing) signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The “Hengyun Guangzhou Zhongxin Knowledge City Energy Storage Station” is the province’s first hybrid energy storage station combining flywheel and lithium battery technologies. This innovative application of flywheel technology in Guangdong’s energy storage sector signifies a significant advancement, particularly for power grid peak shaving, renewable energy integration, and industrial applications.
Largest User-Side Energy Storage Project in Nanchong, Sichuan Completed and Operational
On April 14, the user-side energy storage project for Jintai Textile Group Co., Ltd., supported by State Grid Nanchong County Power Supply Company, was officially completed and operational. With a storage capacity of 1827 kilowatt-hours, this project is currently the largest user-side energy storage project in Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, and is expected to save approximately 200,000 yuan in electricity costs annually.
1.8GWh: Three Major Energy Storage Projects Signed in Hainan
From April 14 to 16, during the Investment China 2025 Hainan Free Trade Port Global Industry Promotion Conference in Haikou, Hainan, three cities signed agreements for energy storage projects totaling 1.8GWh. These projects include the 200MW/800MWh Independent Shared Energy Storage Station by Hainan Tunchang Hengneng Century New Energy, the 100MW/400MWh Zero Carbon No. 1 New Energy Project by China Power Investment Corporation in Changjiang, and the 600MWh Independent Energy Storage Project in Jiangdong New District.
100MW/200MWh: Guoneng’s Shared Energy Storage Project in Guangxi Fully Connected to the Grid
On April 17, Guoneng Yongfu Power Co., Ltd. announced that its 100MW/200MWh shared energy storage project achieved full grid connection. The project, located in Yongfu County, Guilin City, features 20 energy storage units of 5MW/10MWh each, along with a 220 kV output terminal and comprehensive supporting facilities. Utilizing advanced lithium iron phosphate battery technology, the project is expected to generate approximately 320 million kWh of power annually, significantly reducing coal consumption by about 100,000 tons and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 250,000 tons.
