Vikram Solar to Manufacture Solid-State Cell and Battery
Vikram Solar has announced plans to establish a fully integrated solid-state cell and battery manufacturing facility with an initial capacity of 1 GWh, which can be scaled up to 5 GWh. This initiative aims to address the increasing global energy demands while utilizing proprietary battery management system (BMS) technology and a majority of components sourced from India.
According to Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director of Vikram Solar, “Our solid-state batteries, developed and manufactured with predominantly India-made components, support Atmanirbharta and align with India’s renewable energy and climate goals.” The facility will benefit from the advanced technology provided by Entity2 Energy Storage Pvt Ltd., a partner that holds several patents for non-lithium solid-state battery technologies. This collaboration will enable the production of batteries that can be adapted to meet rising energy needs.
As reported by Crisil, India currently meets only 15-20% of its power requirements through renewable energy sources. The updated target aims for 50% of the country’s energy needs to be fulfilled by renewables by 2030. To achieve such a high proportion of variable generation in the energy mix, significant investments in battery storage systems will be essential.
As demand for reliable, round-the-clock clean energy continues to grow, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are emerging as a crucial solution for effective energy storage.
