Unlocking the Future of Energy Storage: Insights from the Shanghai Songjiang District’s Zero-Carbon Initiatives

Unlocking

Energy storage has a bright future, and Songjiang has the answers! Industry stakeholders are coming together to explore new paths towards achieving “zero carbon” emissions.

On April 23, the event titled “New Energy Power: Envisioning a New Future for Energy Storage” took place in the Songjiang District of Shanghai. Experts and scholars from state grid companies, research institutions, and energy storage enterprises gathered to engage in in-depth discussions on key topics such as virtual power plants, energy storage system integration, and corporate energy solutions. The aim is to accelerate the establishment of a green low-carbon energy system, promote diverse applications of energy storage technology, and support the high-quality development of the energy storage industry in Songjiang.

The event featured multiple segments, including discussions on energy storage policy interpretation and applications, sharing of corporate energy solutions, virtual power plant platform construction, and long-life energy storage technology practices. These segments systematically presented the latest advancements in the energy storage industry regarding technical pathways, policy environments, and market applications.

During a roundtable forum, guests from universities, power companies, and industry leaders engaged in a comprehensive discussion on profit models for user-side energy storage and policy support. They shared practical experiences and forward-looking insights to stimulate collaborative innovation within the energy storage sector.

This event not only created an efficient platform for collaboration among government, industry, academia, research, and application sectors but also provided a precise channel for the in-depth alignment of cutting-edge technologies with business needs.

According to Zhang Tingdi, General Manager of Shanghai Zhengtai Intelligent Energy Technology Co., Ltd., virtual power plants are gaining widespread attention as an important means of aggregating distributed energy and participating in grid regulation. Zhengtai Intelligent aims to assist enterprises in optimizing energy allocation and supporting carbon neutrality goals through its role as an “energy steward.”

Lu Fengping, General Manager of Shanghai Yifei Tiandi Electric Control Technology Co., Ltd., introduced the company’s self-developed active balancing energy storage system, which effectively addresses the lifespan limitations caused by inconsistencies in battery cells through efficient energy transfer. Compared to traditional passive balancing solutions, its efficiency is improved by over ten times with almost no energy loss. He noted, “At the product launch site, many companies expressed strong interest, and potential clients have already initiated discussions.” The high-quality business environment and event platform in Songjiang provide significant support for market expansion and technology implementation.

During the event, Zhengtai Intelligent and Yifei Tiandi signed a strategic cooperation agreement to collaborate deeply in the fields of virtual power plant platforms and energy storage system integration. Additionally, seven enterprises officially joined the Songjiang District Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Development Service Alliance, which has now surpassed 80 members since its establishment.

In recent years, Songjiang has leveraged its status as a “pilot zone for green low-carbon development” to lead the way in various key applications. In the commercial and industrial sectors, it supports the construction of distributed energy storage projects to reduce electricity costs and increase the proportion of green energy used. On the grid side, it collaborates with the State Grid to build large-scale energy storage stations, enhancing grid regulation capabilities. On the user side, it promotes the “integrated solar energy storage and charging” model, creating smart parks and zero-carbon communities to establish a comprehensive energy storage ecosystem.

A relevant official from the district’s investment promotion service center stated that the center will continue to focus on the actual needs of enterprises in critical areas such as technological innovation, market expansion, and resource alignment, providing more precise policy services and a more open cooperation platform. This will help accelerate Songjiang’s development into a national leader in the energy storage industry cluster and a “zero-carbon demonstration zone.”
