Times Electric Expands Efforts in the Energy Storage PCS Market

Times

Times Electric is making significant strides in expanding its energy storage PCS (Power Conversion System) market. On October 20, the company announced its commitment to this sector during an interaction with investors, highlighting its focus on leveraging its self-sufficient IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) supply and domestic manufacturing capabilities, as well as its expertise in high-voltage technology from the grid side, to create differentiated technological advantages in high-voltage PCS.

Furthermore, the company aims to capitalize on the collaborative advantages established by CRRC New Energy within state-owned power generation groups, accelerating its market expansion through comprehensive partnerships with system integrators.

Market Positioning: Collaborative Development

In response to investor inquiries regarding its positioning and strategy in the energy storage sector, Times Electric provided clear insights. The company is continually enhancing its collaboration with Zhuzhou, the leading energy storage integration business in China. This strategic positioning distinctly defines the business boundaries between the listed company and its sister organizations within the group, maximizing the benefits from the energy storage market through collaborative development rather than internal competition.

On September 5, 2025, Times Electric introduced the “Energy Storage” concept. According to its 2024 annual report, the company has completed the development and product introduction of Pt technology, achieving international leadership in automotive FRD performance. In terms of energy storage products, the company has launched a 2500kW liquid-cooled model compatible with 314Ah cells and a modular 1250kW model, alongside a 215kW liquid-cooled hybrid model of string-type energy storage inverters.

Technological Advantages: Self-Sufficient IGBT and High-Voltage Expertise

The technological advantages of Times Electric in the energy storage PCS field stem from two core competencies: self-sufficient IGBT chips and a solid foundation in high-voltage technology from the grid side. Utilizing its seventh-generation IGBT chip, the company employs ANPC three-level topology and intelligent grid connection control algorithms to significantly enhance grid power quality, reduce inverter losses, and achieve efficient AC-DC conversion.

In June of this year, Times Electric unveiled the Cloud Hub series 3.X MW energy storage inverter, designed to be compatible with leading next-generation lithium battery systems ranging from 587Ah to 688Ah. This model features an intelligent liquid cooling system and high overload capacity design, supporting a 1.5 times overload for 10 seconds, meeting grid connection requirements. Through heat dissipation optimization, the product’s heat exchange efficiency has been further enhanced, resulting in a 22% increase in power density and a 30% reduction in footprint compared to traditional models, significantly lowering initial system investment costs.

Product Matrix: Comprehensive Solutions on Display

At the SNEC 2025 Shanghai International Photovoltaic Exhibition held from June 11 to June 13, Times Electric showcased its comprehensive layout in new energy conversion solutions. The company introduced the new generation 2000V/400kW+ string-type photovoltaic inverter, “Chixiao,” along with the next-generation “Cloud Hub” energy storage inverter. “Chixiao” incorporates CRRC’s self-developed SiC modules, high-precision sensors, and a domestic operating system, building on the technology used in high-speed rail traction inverters. The “Cloud Hub” energy storage inverter integrates core technologies such as high power density, hybrid energy storage scheduling, and comprehensive protection.

This energy storage inverter boasts three core advantages: higher power with a single unit capacity of 3.45MW, enhanced safety with millisecond-level arc extinction, and greater compatibility for seamless integration with hybrid energy storage scheduling and various grid types. Additionally, Times Electric showcased a series of products, including a 400kW+ string-type photovoltaic inverter on a 1500V platform and a modular 4400kW photovoltaic inverter suitable for large-scale ground installations.

Strategic Development: Diverse Pathways for Collaborative Growth

Times Electric’s business framework revolves around a vertically integrated model encompassing “power semiconductors—motor control—system integration—engineering services.” Power semiconductors are positioned as the “foundation” of the company’s value chain. Through a dual-path approach of internal supply and external provision, the company aims to solidify system experience into competitive device advantages, which in turn, will enhance system differentiation, creating a virtuous cycle.

The high-reliability design methodologies and quality management systems developed in the rail transit sector will be repurposed for various new applications, including offshore equipment and new energy inverters and storage. In the new energy market, Times Electric anticipates a total of 2.256 million power modules installed by 2024, holding a market share of 13.7%, securing the second position in the industry. Additionally, the company has achieved rapid breakthroughs in new energy generation, with over 20GW of domestic bids for photovoltaic inverters in 2024 and an annual shipment volume exceeding 10GW, ranking among the industry leaders.

Global Expansion: Positioning in the Worldwide New Energy Market

Times Electric’s energy storage and new energy initiatives extend beyond domestic markets. Earlier this year, the company began its expansion into the new energy markets in West Asia and North Africa. From January 14 to January 16, Times Electric showcased its full range of new energy products at the 2025 World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, UAE. To address the challenges posed by extreme temperatures, dust, and arid conditions in the West Asia and North African regions, the company presented its self-developed ground solar storage conversion system solution, facilitating the construction of ground photovoltaic stations.

Moreover, Times Electric displayed comprehensive green hydrogen production solutions, including AC and DC coupling power sources, emphasizing grid compatibility, precision, efficiency, modularity, safety, reliability, and ease of operation. At this exhibition, the company introduced 25kW and 30kW residential and commercial string inverters, as well as a 10kW solar storage integrated machine, supporting the development of residential and commercial photovoltaic projects in West Asia, North Africa, and Europe.

With the global energy storage market experiencing rapid growth, the installed capacity is projected to exceed 1.2TW by 2025. Leveraging its extensive experience in high-reliability technology from the rail transit sector and its core competitive advantage in self-sufficient IGBT, Times Electric is swiftly transitioning from the photovoltaic inverter market to the energy storage PCS domain. Guided by its strategic diversification of “homogeneous technology,” Times Electric is poised to carve out new growth trajectories in the green energy sector.
