In a significant advancement toward a more sustainable and resilient energy future, one of Sweden’s first hybrid solar parks has been successfully launched in Halmstad. Sungrow has played a pivotal role in this project by supplying the inverters and Energy Storage System (ESS).

This innovative hybrid solar park combines photovoltaic (PV) technology with advanced energy storage systems, illustrating the progress in renewable energy deployment, grid stability, and energy efficiency. Developed by Solarwork Sverige and Powerworks Energy, the park is designed to generate over 7,000 MWh of clean electricity each year, ensuring optimal energy production and availability when it is most needed.

Sungrow’s solutions are integral to the project, providing both PV inverters and the PowerTitan 1.0 Energy Storage System, showcasing the company’s commitment to delivering comprehensive and efficient energy solutions. The driving force behind this ambitious initiative was the necessity for cost-effective, on-demand energy generation.

“We invested in a solar park because we believe society needs it, and solar energy is a sustainable way to produce electricity,” stated Carl Kuylenstierna, CEO of Sperlingsholms Gods, the plant’s owner. “We generate electricity precisely when it is most needed, during peak daylight hours, and at a low marginal cost.”

The 6.6 MWp PV installation features 11,928 bifacial 550 Wp PV modules mounted on a ground structure. The majority of the solar output is converted by 20 units of Sungrow’s SG250HX string inverters, renowned for their high efficiency and compatibility with bifacial modules. To enhance energy efficiency and support the grid with frequency regulation, the plant incorporates 4 MW / 4.4 MWh of battery storage, utilizing Sungrow’s PowerTitan 1.0 solution. This system is AC-coupled, allowing the PV system and battery energy storage system (BESS) to operate independently for improved flexibility and reliability.

Fredrik Lyckvind, CSO at Powerworks Energy, emphasized the strategic choice of Sungrow’s technology: “We selected Sungrow’s technology for both the PV inverters and the BESS because they are market leaders and perform exceptionally well in the Nordic climate. PowerTitan 1.0 was chosen for its 1C system, enabling us to charge and discharge within an hour—ideal for our operating markets. Additionally, its liquid-cooled technology significantly lowers operating costs and ensures long-term system stability.”

The installation of Sungrow’s inverters and the PowerTitan system was carried out with remarkable efficiency, enabling the project to adhere to its strict timelines. Designed for user-friendliness and optimized for challenging environments, Sungrow’s solutions minimized downtime and expedited commissioning.

As Fredrik Liljehov, Head of Utility at Solarwork Sverige, noted, “This is one of Sweden’s first hybrid solar parks, featuring nearly 12,000 solar panels that will generate 7,000 MWh annually. We installed 20 SG250HX inverters, selected for their capacity to handle large energy loads while allowing for flexible installation.”

Hybrid projects like this one maximize the efficient harvesting and utilization of renewable energy. Raphael Henkel, Regional Manager for Sweden and Finland at Sungrow, remarked on the project’s significance: “We are thrilled to collaborate with Solarwork Sverige and Powerworks Energy. The successful completion of one of Sweden’s first hybrid solar parks underscores the growing demand for integrated PV and ESS solutions. At Sungrow, we are committed to providing innovative, high-performance technology that supports grid stability and enhances the deployment of renewable energy. This project for Sperlingsholms Gods serves as a testament to how hybrid solar and storage solutions can advance the clean energy transition and exemplifies a strong partnership among all parties involved.”
