Successful

On April 24, 2025, the Energy Network Communication Innovation Application Conference successfully commenced in Hangzhou. The event was organized by the China Energy Research Society and supported by the National Power Dispatching Control Center and the China Southern Power Grid Dispatching Control Center. Several organizations, including the IEEE PES Power System Communication and Network Security Technical Committee (China), the Zhejiang Province Communication Society Power Communication Special Committee, and leading technology companies such as Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Ruijie Networks Co., Ltd., and others, co-hosted the conference. Over 500 participants from various sectors, including power grid companies, energy enterprises, research institutions, and communication technology experts attended in person, while more than 180,000 viewers watched the event online.

The theme of this conference was “Empowering Communication Innovation through Digital Intelligence to Build a New Energy System.” The agenda included keynote speeches, specialized sessions, case presentations, and exchanges of innovative applications in energy network communications. This gathering aimed to foster multi-level discussions and facilitate the integration of advanced communication and digital technologies within the energy sector, accelerating the development of an integrated energy communication network that supports a green and low-carbon energy transition.

The morning session was co-hosted by Sun Zhengyun, the Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Energy Research Society, and Wu Zhangjian, the Chief Information Officer of China Power Construction Corporation. In the afternoon, Liu Jianming, the Director of the Expert Committee on Smart Grid Technology and Equipment from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, presided over the meeting.

In his opening remarks, Shi Yubo, President of the China Energy Research Society, highlighted the accelerated development of a new energy system and new power system in China. He noted that the “Electricity-Carbon Coupling” mechanism is being refined, and the application of next-generation information and communication technologies is deeply integrating with the energy industry. He proposed three initiatives: enhance technological innovation to seize global technological leadership, adhere to standards to cultivate a new industrial ecosystem, and deepen international cooperation to build a collaborative energy network.

Zhang Zhenyu, Deputy Director of the National Power Dispatching Control Center, emphasized the rapid construction of a new power system, which requires higher standards for the safety and reliability of the power communication network. He noted that advanced optical communication, wireless communication, and local communication technologies are crucial for ensuring safe operations and reliable energy supply.

Wang Kaijun, Deputy General Manager and Party Committee Member of State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Company, spoke on the importance of grid communication as the “nervous system” of the power system, especially with the ongoing clean and low-carbon energy transition.

Keynote presentations focused on the development trends in energy network communication technology. Experts discussed the integration of communication technologies with AI and computing networks, providing insights into the future of advanced communication technologies in the energy sector. Notable presentations included Li Qianmu from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, who discussed the safety implications of generative AI in new industrialization, and Yang Bin, Director of the Power Communication Department of the National Power Dispatching Control Center, who highlighted the role of advanced communication technologies in facilitating the high-quality development of the new power system.

The conference also featured a vibrant interactive discussion session, allowing participants to engage directly with experts on the fusion of cutting-edge technologies like AI, fgOTN, and their applications in the power sector. This collaborative environment aimed to explore innovative solutions and strategies for enhancing energy communication technology.

In conclusion, the conference served as a vital platform for fostering collaboration and sharing innovative practices in energy communication technology, ultimately contributing to the development of a new energy system and promoting digital and intelligent advancements within the industry.
