
The Second Forum on the Development Strategy of New Energy Productivity and the Third Academic Conference on Energy Economics were successfully held in Shanghai from May 27 to 29, 2025. This event was organized by the Coal Industry Planning and Design Institute, East China University of Science and Technology, and the editorial team of Coal Economic Research, with support from the Business School and the Research Center for Energy Economics and Environmental Management at East China University of Science and Technology.
Themed “New Energy Productivity Leading Energy Transformation”, the conference focused on significant issues within the energy economy sector. It addressed hot topics and critical issues in the energy industry, analyzing trends in industrial development and exploring the characteristics and realization pathways of new energy productivity. In-depth discussions were held on the relationship between industrial innovation and new energy productivity, energy development strategies, the digital economy, low-carbon development, energy transition, and energy security.
During the keynote session, renowned experts and scholars from institutions such as Shandong Province Association for Science and Technology, Yan’an University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, East China University of Science and Technology, and Peking University shared insights on industry hotspots and trends, engaging in discussions on major issues within the energy economics field.
The event also featured a launch conference for a special issue of Coal Economic Research, showcasing academic achievements related to policy support and market mechanisms in energy transition, strategies and practices for improving energy efficiency, economic feasibility analyses of renewable energy, and coordinated development between energy and the environment. These contributions aim to provide new ideas and methods for addressing current energy challenges and promote ongoing development and innovation in the field of energy economics.
More than 150 experts and scholars from over 50 universities, research institutions, and enterprises, including Peking University, Renmin University of China, Beihang University, Beijing Institute of Technology, China University of Mining and Technology, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), China University of Petroleum (Beijing), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing University of Finance and Economics, East China University of Science and Technology, Hunan University, Xinjiang University, Guizhou University, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, attended the conference.
