The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: Accelerating the Development of Autonomous Driving System Safety Standards
On April 29, 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that it would prioritize the establishment of stringent national standards for the safety of autonomous driving systems. These standards are expected to address five critical areas of focus.
Among the main objectives is the promotion of safety protocols for the design and operation of autonomous driving systems, including those for autonomous taxis, automated driving simulations, and more. The ministry aims to enhance the regulatory framework concerning the safety of these technologies.
Furthermore, there will be a strong push for the adoption of standards regarding electric vehicles, specifically addressing their operational and management requirements. This includes the establishment of standards for electric vehicle safety, which will need to be strictly adhered to.
The ministry has emphasized the importance of clarity in these guidelines to ensure that electric vehicles maintain safety levels that meet national benchmarks. A similar approach will be taken for the standards concerning electric vehicle charging stations and their operational safety.
Additionally, the guidelines will address side collisions and rear-end collisions, ensuring that safety measures are adequately implemented. Testing methodologies concerning noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) will also be developed and refined to enhance vehicle quality.
Moreover, the ministry plans to establish a comprehensive system for setting standards and enhancing cooperation within the automotive sector to improve vehicle governance.
