As of April 10, State Grid Anhui Electric Power Co., Ltd. has successfully deployed a total of 19 mobile energy storage devices to address seasonal low voltage issues in rural areas. The typical characteristic of rural power distribution areas is the “year-round low electricity supply and short-term high demand,” with the Spring Festival period being a peak time for such high demand, leading to transient low voltage problems in the grid. To tackle these challenges, starting in January, State Grid Anhui Electric Power has actively initiated the exploration and construction of a new power system within the province, launching pilot applications of mobile energy storage devices. A technical plan for the mobile electrochemical energy storage system has been developed, outlining the system architecture, technical standards, and pilot construction proposals.
Each mobile energy storage device has a capacity of 30 kW/60 kWh and weighs approximately 800 kilograms, connecting to the low-voltage lines of the power distribution network. When the device detects a real-time voltage exceeding 230 volts, it charges slowly; conversely, it discharges immediately when the voltage falls below 210 volts. The device is capable of independent charging and discharging across phases, thereby balancing the three-phase load of the power distribution area.
During the Spring Festival, these mobile energy storage devices completed a total of 236 charging cycles, with an average charging time of 2.57 hours, and 334 discharging cycles, averaging 1.84 hours. The average charging and discharging efficiency reached 94.88%. State Grid Anhui Electric Power plans to enhance the online monitoring and operational maintenance of the mobile energy storage devices, improve relevant technical standards and management procedures, and promote the large-scale application of these new energy storage devices in various scenarios, including ensuring the supply of essential services and energy transition.
