Fresh Ideas for Big Goals: Start-ups Setting New Trends at The smarter E Europe 2025

The energy landscape of tomorrow is being shaped today, with a focus on sustainability, intelligence, and integration. Transitioning to a renewable 24/7 energy supply demands innovative thinking across all sectors and the courage of companies willing to forge new paths. This is where The smarter E Europe steps in: the largest exhibition alliance for the energy sector in Europe, bringing together essential players from around the globe.

This alliance serves as a platform for discussion and information exchange, as well as a marketplace for groundbreaking solutions in renewable energy, energy storage, electromobility, digitalization, and the flexibility of the energy system. With over 4,000 square meters of dedicated exhibition space, The smarter E Europe provides start-ups with an ideal stage to connect and showcase their innovations to an international audience of experts.

Next year, more than 3,000 exhibitors, including over 180 start-ups, are expected to participate. The event will take place from May 7–9, 2025, at Messe München, once again becoming the hub of the global energy industry. This gathering will attract major global players and dynamic pioneers alike, all contributing to the energy transition. Anticipated figures highlight the scale of the event: over 110,000 visitors from around the world are expected to attend, promising three exciting days filled with innovation and discussion.

Start-up Area: A Space for New Ideas

The smarter E Europe fosters the innovative spirit of young companies by offering an exclusive Start-up Area with more than 4,000 square meters of exhibition space. Here, start-ups can present their products and solutions to an expert audience. They can select from three exhibition packages: Newcomer, Rising Star, and Young Innovators, the latter being specifically for German companies. These packages include special conditions that facilitate participation and encourage diverse ideas.

Through the Young Innovators package, German start-ups can showcase their innovations at a joint booth supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), which provides a subsidy covering up to 60% of their costs. With these initiatives, The smarter E Europe actively supports the growth of start-ups in the energy sector, aiming to help them forge new connections, secure funding, and enhance their market visibility.

Presenting and Networking

A key feature of the Start-up Area is the Start-up Stage, where innovators can present their cutting-edge products and solutions to an expert audience. This platform not only allows for presentations but also facilitates valuable discussions with industry experts, helping start-ups refine their concepts.

In 2025, the event will introduce an informal breakfast for participating start-ups, providing an opportunity for networking and discussion. Additionally, four mini lounges will be available for more private meetings, fostering productive conversations and strategic partnerships. The Start-up Area is the perfect environment for establishing new contacts, nurturing existing relationships, and building collaborations.

The Focus on The smarter E AWARD

Particular attention will be given to companies and innovators who receive the The smarter E AWARD. This prestigious industry award will be presented in categories such as Photovoltaics, Energy Storage, E-Mobility, Smart Integrated Energy, and Outstanding Projects during an award ceremony on May 6, 2025, at the International Congress Center München (ICM). In 2024, two start-ups were honored: dvlp.energy from Berlin for its data-driven tool assessing the suitability of sites for solar and wind energy generation, and IO Dynamics from Flensburg for its smart charging solution for electric delivery vehicle fleets. Start-ups can apply for the The smarter E AWARD 2025 until January 31, with participation being free of charge.
