Spain and Portugal’s Power Outage Warning: Precision Control Needed for Post-Meter Energy Storage as New Energy Technology Achieves TÜV Certification

Spain

Recently, Spain and Portugal experienced significant nationwide blackouts, raising awareness about the vulnerabilities of power grids and the risks associated with reliance on specific energy sources. With the increasing frequency of extreme weather and peak electricity demands, energy transition has become not just a trend but a critical national security and industrial issue.

However, Taiwan’s post-meter energy storage market faces several challenges, including insufficient investment confidence from users, frequent policy adjustments, and high technical barriers. Lai Wei-wen, founder of New Energy Technology, is targeting the post-meter user-side energy storage market, utilizing AI smart microgrid solutions to assist companies in effectively managing their digital energy assets.

In response to these industry challenges, New Energy Technology has collaborated with major energy storage companies from Japan and the U.S. and spent two years developing its proprietary hardware and software technology. They recently launched a comprehensive “lifecycle operation management service” for post-meter solar storage, which has successfully passed performance testing and certification by TÜV Rheinland. In 18 different post-meter application scenarios, the system demonstrated a remarkable 99.83% power control accuracy and a total strategy error value (MAPE) of only 0.34%, making it the first solution in the industry to achieve this certification.

Lai pointed out a significant pain point in the industry: “When companies set up post-meter energy storage systems, they often face inaccuracies in system predictions or unstable controls, which can lead to financial planning errors or lower-than-expected actual returns, affecting their willingness to invest.”

He further explained that traditional energy storage maintenance methods largely rely on manual inspections and post-incident repairs, making it challenging to achieve uninterrupted 24-hour monitoring. This results in slow response times, inability to provide real-time alerts, and often leads to unnecessary maintenance costs, as well as more severe equipment failures and losses.

The “post-meter solar storage microgrid smart solution” features the self-developed ForwardAI data energy platform, which accurately predicts site electricity generation, load, and storage energy data. It issues control commands through APMS to the station control EMS for post-meter scheduling.

In contrast, New Energy’s AI smart operation platform provides all-weather monitoring and real-time data analysis capabilities, enabling proactive maintenance predictions and early warnings to prevent accidents from escalating. The system integrates automated anomaly detection and emergency protection mechanisms, significantly reducing downtime and maintenance costs, while greatly enhancing operational efficiency and stability.

According to actual statistics, if a traditional system misses a single warning, it could result in 1-3 days of downtime and maintenance. In contrast, the New Energy AI system can maintain stable operation for each energy storage charge and discharge cycle, delivering at least a 30% increase in benefits for commercial users.

Lai mentioned in an interview that when users and stakeholders can see the stability, predictability, and actual benefits behind the data, it will be a crucial turning point for the maturation and widespread adoption of post-meter energy storage. With the technical validation and operational experience accumulated by New Energy Technology, Taiwan is poised to carve out its own intelligent energy solutions in the international market.
