South Korean Battery Companies Unveil Innovations at Inter Battery 2025 Exhibition

Three South Korean battery companies are set to showcase their innovative battery technologies at the country’s largest battery exhibition, Inter Battery 2025, aimed at enhancing their competitiveness during a period of temporary demand stagnation. According to the battery industry on February 23rd, LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK On will unveil new products emphasizing their development capabilities at the event, which will take place at COEX in Seoul from March 5th to 7th.

LG Energy Solution, which has the largest exhibition space among the participating companies, will debut its complete 46 series battery product line, representing the next generation of cylindrical batteries. This series features a cylindrical battery with a diameter of 46mm, offering at least five times greater energy density and output compared to the existing 21 series (21mm in diameter). The new product is designed to maximize performance while enhancing safety. Additionally, a solar mobility vehicle from Aptera Motors, a U.S.-based solar electric vehicle startup equipped with LG Energy Solution batteries, will also be on display.

Samsung SDI will present its innovative No-TP technology, which has recently passed the commercialization review process. This advanced safety technology addresses growing concerns about battery safety, particularly regarding battery fires. The No-TP technology prevents heat from spreading to the safety materials placed between the cells when a malfunction occurs in a specific cell. Furthermore, Samsung SDI will share updates on its all-solid battery (ASB), with plans for commercialization by 2027. The company has already provided samples to various customers and conducted evaluations at the end of the previous year.

SK On will demonstrate its strategy for portfolio diversification by introducing all three major battery types: pouch, square, and cylindrical. This wide range of form factors and battery material technologies showcases the potential for future business expansion. For the first time, SK On will also reveal a real model of a cylindrical battery developed by the company, following the completion of a pilot line for cylindrical batteries in the second half of last year. Additionally, SK On will introduce a high-voltage mid-nickel battery, which has recently gained attention.

Notably, BYD, a Chinese battery company that has begun selling electric vehicles in Korea, will participate for the first time, signaling the onset of competition between Korean and Chinese battery manufacturers. Moreover, Israeli high-speed battery charging technology firm Store Dot will announce the establishment of a joint venture to build a domestic production facility.
