Sono Group N.V. Accelerates Commercial Rollout of Solar Technology for Electric Trucks and Refrigerated Trailers
Recent installations on an electric truck and refrigeration trailer highlight the scalability and commercial viability of Sono’s solar solutions.
Munich, June 17, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Sono Group N.V. (OTCQB: SEVCF) today announced two significant commercial installations of its proprietary solar retrofit solutions, marking an important step as the company enhances its operations in Munich. These installations showcase the practical effects and versatility of Sono’s technology across various vehicle platforms.
Last week, Sono engineers completed a pioneering installation of the company’s low-voltage solar solution on a fully electric cargo box truck, representing a major advancement for electrified logistics. The photovoltaic system was expertly integrated onto the roof of the truck’s cargo box. Utilizing Sono’s proprietary low-voltage solar charge controller, this system connects to the vehicle’s 24V onboard battery, similar to the architecture used in the company’s successful bus retrofits. Additionally, Sono provides high-voltage solar charge controllers for battery electric trucks, buses, and vans, allowing direct charging of the traction battery at voltages ranging from 400V to 800V.
This week, Sono finalized the installation of its solar solution on a refrigeration trailer, one of the most impactful applications for solar-powered transport. This system boasts over 4.5 kWp of installed power and utilizes Sono’s 48V solar charge controller, which connects to the trailer’s 48V battery system. By supplying power directly to the refrigeration unit, the solution significantly reduces energy and fuel dependency, promotes quieter, emission-free operation, and extends the lifespan of components. Operators can expect to lower energy or diesel consumption, with a return on investment estimated between 3 to 5 years, depending on usage scenarios.
“These two installations reflect the wide range of applications we are currently supporting,” stated George O’Leary, Managing Director and CEO of Sono Group. “From refrigerated trailers to electric box trucks, our team consistently delivers practical solar solutions that help reduce costs, emissions, and complexity for commercial fleets.”
Every Sono retrofit solution comes equipped with the company’s proprietary Solar Fleet Dashboard, a user-friendly interface that offers insights into solar yield, fuel savings, and CO₂ reduction. The dashboard also facilitates historical data tracking and actionable fleet analytics, enabling customers to make informed operational decisions and achieve their sustainability objectives.
In addition to low-voltage configurations, Sono offers high-voltage integration options for vehicles with traction batteries or higher power requirements. These options are particularly suited for electric trucks, hybrid systems, and applications with continuous auxiliary loads, providing even greater energy independence.
With additional installations planned across new vehicle categories and regions, Sono continues to broaden its operational presence and partner network. Fleet operators and partners interested in exploring solar integration opportunities or co-developing use cases are encouraged to reach out to Sono’s integration team at sonomotors.com.
This progress underscores Sono Group’s dedication to accelerating the adoption of solar technology in commercial transportation through scalable, modular, and intelligent solutions that are effective in real-world applications today.
