Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition: Future Trends in the Electric Vehicle Industry
Date: April 27, 2025
On April 23, the 12th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition officially opened. The theme of the event, “Driven by Innovation, Toward the Future,” focuses on pure electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, commercial vehicles, and other significant aspects of the automotive industry. The exhibition aims to showcase new solutions and technologies in the field of new energy vehicles.
Currently, the global energy transition is shifting from “carbon” to “green.” China has set ambitious goals to accelerate this transition. The energy sector is expected to balance the new energy wave’s dynamics and develop new energy systems to meet the growing energy demand. By 2025, China’s new energy storage capacity is projected to reach 30 GW, with significant advancements in battery technology.
In the current energy transition, Shanghai has already shifted its focus from “energy supply” to “intelligent energy management,” with energy companies working on enhancing energy storage systems. In 2024, Shanghai’s energy storage industry is expected to generate revenues of 18.89 billion yuan, marking a significant 70.19% increase compared to previous years.
The energy storage market is evolving rapidly, with a forecasted capacity of 8.88 GWh in 2025, representing a year-on-year growth of 107%. Various sectors, including industrial and residential energy storage, are contributing to this growth.
By early 2025, numerous companies are expected to launch energy storage systems, with Shanghai’s energy storage market projected to lead in production and innovation.
As the industry shifts from traditional fossil fuels to electric and hybrid technologies, energy storage solutions are becoming increasingly vital for both residential and commercial applications. Shanghai’s energy storage systems are designed to tackle challenges, such as how to make energy safer, more efficient, and more accessible.
The demand for energy storage solutions is driven by the increasing need for reliable and sustainable energy sources. Shanghai’s energy storage industry is expected to thrive, meeting the growing demands of consumers and industries alike.
In the context of energy density and long cycle life, the focus is on high-capacity battery systems, especially for overseas markets. Compared to domestic markets, international markets require high-performance energy storage systems with rigorous quality standards.
For instance, at the exhibition, a 314 Ah battery was showcased, demonstrating a cycle life exceeding 12,000 cycles, which is already certified for multiple quality standards. By the third quarter of this year, energy storage systems capable of exceeding 600+ Ah are anticipated.
In response to the growing demands for energy storage solutions, Shanghai is also investing in the development of large-scale battery manufacturing facilities. This includes plans to construct a 1 GWh production line by 2026, which will start operations alongside other battery technologies.
In summary, Shanghai’s energy storage industry is set to progress with advancements in technology and production. The integration of energy storage systems across various sectors will enhance reliability, efficiency, and sustainability in the energy landscape.
