Currently, a new wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation is accelerating globally. As a strategic and foundational industry, new materials are becoming a core engine for driving green and low-carbon transformation as well as the upgrade of high-end manufacturing. With the deepening of the “dual carbon” goals and the comprehensive implementation of the “14th Five-Year Plan for New Material Industry Development,” the new materials industry is experiencing unprecedented development opportunities.

Research and development in new materials significantly promotes the advancement of new energy. Artificial intelligence serves as a driving force for leapfrog technological development, industrial optimization, and overall productivity enhancement. There is an urgent need for artificial intelligence to predict material innovations, forecast material structure generation, and improve efficiency through intelligent methods.

The SNEC “Graphene and New Materials Frontier Application Technology Summit” will not only focus on graphene research and its technological applications but will also expand into the “Application of New Materials in the New Energy Sector.” This includes two-dimensional new material technologies advancing towards chips and sensors; solar energy generation evolving from PERC to TOPCON and perovskite technologies; and a shift towards artificial intelligence methodologies. As a result, the SNEC 2025 forum will officially be renamed the “International Summit on the Application of New Materials in the New Energy Sector.” This year’s forum is themed “New Materials – New Energy – AI New Methods,” focusing on:

  1. The application of new materials in the new energy sector;
  2. Accelerating the digital transformation of new material R&D and applications;
  3. Promoting new materials research through innovative artificial intelligence methods.

The government work report emphasizes the importance of advancing high-level technological independence, vigorously promoting innovation-driven development, and optimizing and upgrading industrial structures. This forum will gather experts, scholars, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders from government, industry, academia, research, and application sectors to collectively discuss the forefront trends and industrialization paths of new material technologies. Supported by resources from government, industry, academia, research, and finance, the forum aims to serve as a communication platform for experts, scholars, and engineers in the new energy sector, providing strategic guidance and practical experience for the innovative development of the new materials industry. This will help propel China’s new materials industry toward the high end of the global value chain.
