State Grid Liaoning Electric Power is leading the charge towards a green and low-carbon industrial transformation by leveraging its energy big data center. The company is utilizing advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data, and artificial intelligence to facilitate a comprehensive upgrade of industrial green transformation. This initiative aims to create a smart energy management hub that covers all areas, enabling real-time monitoring of enterprise energy consumption data, dynamic carbon emissions tracking, and intelligent analysis.

A full-service system has been established, encompassing “energy efficiency optimization, green electricity consumption, and carbon emissions measurement.” This system collaborates with government entities, businesses, and third-party organizations to ensure that policy implementation aligns with industrial practices. By deepening the application of digital technologies through its energy big data platform, the company innovates with applications like “virtual power plants” and “electricity-carbon synergy,” enhancing cross-domain resource aggregation and flexible regulation capabilities.

Furthermore, by conducting tailored energy efficiency services for individual enterprises, State Grid Liaoning Electric Power assists companies in uncovering energy-saving potential and optimizing energy use structures, thereby injecting new momentum into green and low-carbon transformations in the industry.

For instance, Hedong Plastic Granule Processing Plant, which has been entrenched in the plastic industry for a decade, previously faced high energy consumption due to inefficient electricity use in its injection molding and extrusion processes. Now, through the platform, the company can monitor the electricity usage of equipment like injection and extrusion machines in real-time, identifying 30% of ineffective energy consumption. Utilizing AI energy efficiency analysis and machine learning, the platform predicts order loads and dynamically adjusts equipment operations. As a result, in the first quarter of 2025, the plant achieved a 34.7% reduction in electricity consumption per product, saving 17,000 yuan in electricity costs, significantly lowering carbon emissions intensity and providing a model for the green transformation of light industries.

The green transformation of Hedong Plastics is not only a necessary response to the dual carbon goals but also a critical strategy to address the international supply chain’s carbon barriers. With the assistance of the Liaoning Carbon Measurement Center (Electricity-Carbon), the company has established a monitoring system for indirect carbon emissions from electricity, utilizing blockchain technology to ensure data traceability, along with AR inspections and drone monitoring for preventive equipment maintenance.

Looking ahead, the company plans to accelerate the construction of green factories starting with energy consumption management. By deepening collaboration with the power grid, it will pilot real-time carbon emissions tracking through electricity-carbon meters, laying a solid data foundation for carbon trading. Additionally, it aims to promote a “green electricity trading + rooftop photovoltaic” model to increase the share of clean energy and explore virtual power plant technologies to aggregate flexible loads and optimize energy use structures.

State Grid Dalian Power Supply Company will continue to leverage its platform to provide comprehensive services, including carbon measurement and green electricity consumption, thereby accelerating the green transformation of light industries.
