Powerful Solar Flare Recorded on the Sun
On February 23, 2025, a significant M-class solar flare was detected on the Sun, as reported by the Fedorov Institute of Applied Geophysics (IAG). This M4.9 flare lasted for 23 minutes.
Solar flares are categorized into five classes based on their intensity: A, B, C, M, and X. The lowest level, A0.0, corresponds to a radiation power of 10 nanowatts per square meter at Earth’s orbit. Each subsequent class represents a tenfold increase in power.
According to the space weather forecast for February 23-25, there is a possibility of another flare, potentially of the highest X-class. Some deterioration in high-frequency (HF) radio communication conditions is expected during certain hours of the day.
It’s noteworthy that the first X-class flare of 2025 was observed earlier in January.
