Siemens Launches First Integrated Solar Storage Project at SNC in China

Siemens

On April 21, Siemens held a press conference at Siemens CNC (Nanjing) Co., Ltd. (SNC) under the theme “Microgrid Intelligence: Leading a Zero-Carbon Future.” During this event, Siemens announced the successful operation of its first integrated solar and storage project in China at the SNC facility. The project fully utilizes Siemens’ digital microgrid solution and integrates distributed photovoltaic and industrial lithium battery storage systems. By employing Siemens’ Smart ECX carbon management platform and the real-time control strategies of the SICAM A8000 microgrid controller, the project aims to optimize energy usage and significantly reduce carbon emissions at the factory.

Lin Bin, Executive Vice President of Siemens (China) Co., Ltd. and General Manager of Siemens Greater China’s Smart Infrastructure Group, expressed his satisfaction at the successful operation of the solar-storage integration project at SNC. He emphasized that this project represents an important innovation and practical application of energy management through digitalization and low-carbon technology. The successful experience from the SNC project has resulted in a replicable digital microgrid solution, which can provide valuable references for other factories and parks in optimizing energy management and enabling energy transition.

SNC’s implementation of Siemens’ digital microgrid solution has allowed for optimized management of the solar-storage system. This solution integrates Smart ECX and SICAM A8000 as decision-making and control units, leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence. It provides comprehensive and precise energy management and carbon footprint services, including real-time energy monitoring and analysis, carbon reduction path planning, and source-grid-load-storage optimization. Additionally, through load forecasting models, it can optimize the operation mode of the solar-storage system in real time, ensuring a 100% consumption of green electricity while reducing electricity costs and the factory’s carbon emissions.

Furthermore, the SNC facility operates a high-safety lithium battery storage system with a capacity of 1860 kW/5580 kWh, which helps reduce electricity costs by peak-shaving and valley-filling. During the peak energy consumption periods in summer, when the factory faces electricity restrictions, this storage system can provide stable energy for core loads for up to three hours. It is estimated that by applying Siemens’ digital microgrid solution, SNC can reduce annual electricity costs by approximately 250,000 yuan.

During the press conference, Siemens signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai Xinjinqiao Energy Technology Co., Ltd. This partnership aims to leverage the implementation of the energy microgrid benchmark project in the Xinjinqiao industrial park to advance the operational model of “energy microgrid + low-carbon smart park.” Both parties plan to establish a strategic partnership in areas such as energy microgrids, virtual power plants, and low-carbon smart parks, focusing on the digitalization and low-carbon transformation of park energy management and operational models.
