Siemens has successfully launched its first integrated solar-storage project at its factory in China, marking a significant step in advancing smart energy management as industries push towards carbon neutrality.

On April 21, during the digital microgrid ecosystem conference held at Siemens CNC (Nanjing) Co., Ltd. (SNC), the company announced the operational success of this groundbreaking project. Utilizing Siemens’ comprehensive digital microgrid solution, the project integrates distributed photovoltaic systems, industrial lithium battery energy storage, and intelligent energy carbon management systems. This combination facilitates efficient energy use while significantly reducing carbon emissions, serving as a replicable technical model for the green transformation of the manufacturing sector.

Lin Bin, Executive Vice President of Siemens (China) Ltd. and General Manager of the Intelligent Infrastructure Group for Greater China, noted that the SNC project represents an important practice in digitalization and low-carbon energy management. This solution not only optimizes the collaborative management of sources, networks, loads, and storage but also offers an energy-saving and emission reduction model that can be adopted by other factories and industrial parks.

The solution is centered around the Smart ECX intelligent energy carbon management platform and the SICAM A8000 microgrid controller, leveraging Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence technologies to achieve real-time energy monitoring, carbon reduction path optimization, and efficient utilization of green electricity. The project features a highly secure 1860 kW/5580 kWh lithium battery energy storage system, which saves costs through load shifting capabilities and can provide power to core loads for up to three hours during summer electricity restrictions, thereby enhancing the energy resilience of the factory. It is estimated that implementing Siemens’ digital microgrid solution will reduce SNC's annual electricity costs by approximately 250,000 yuan.

During the conference, Siemens also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai Xinjinqiao Energy Technology Co., Ltd.. Together, they aim to develop a demonstration project for “energy microgrids + low-carbon smart parks,” exploring innovative applications like virtual power plants and promoting the digitalization and low-carbon upgrades of energy management in industrial parks.
