SiC technology is rapidly advancing in the automotive sector. As of May 10, 2025, the development of silicon carbide (SiC) technology has become a key driver for progress within the electric vehicle (EV) industry. As the third-generation semiconductor technology, SiC is recognized for its superior performance, greatly enhancing the core systems of new energy vehicles. This technology has enabled significant improvements in performance and efficiency for electric vehicles.

From high-end luxury models to mass-market vehicles, SiC technology is being applied across a wide range of platforms, including pure electric and hybrid models. The applications of SiC technology are expanding rapidly, and it is now being integrated into various vehicles, including high-performance electric cars and hybrid models.

Currently, the price range for vehicles using SiC technology is between 10,000 and 150,000 yuan, with power outputs ranging from 150 kW to 645 kW. For example, the new electric vehicle ES90 by a leading manufacturer is set to launch in the fourth quarter of this year, featuring an 800V high-voltage platform and significant advancements in electric power management technology.

The ES90 is designed with a maximum output of 370 kW and a battery capacity of 111 kWh, providing high performance and extended range for drivers. Another prominent model, the N7, utilizes a TZ200XS3JD electric motor with a maximum output of 200 kW, confirming the effectiveness of SiC in enhancing vehicle performance.

In the competitive landscape of EVs, companies such as NIO and BYD are also adopting SiC technology in their vehicles. NIO’s i5 eDrive35L is set to be officially released in the domestic market, featuring SiC components that enable an increase in vehicle range by up to 47 kilometers. The i8, another electric SUV from NIO, is expected to be launched in July, built on a robust 800V platform with a power output of over 400 kW.

The introduction of these models indicates a growing trend in the adoption of SiC technology in the new energy vehicle market, particularly as manufacturers aim for higher efficiency and performance capabilities. By 2025, the market for electric vehicles in China is projected to reach approximately 3.5 million units, with a significant focus on the integration of SiC technology.

Moreover, the latest updates suggest that the market is moving towards a broader acceptance of SiC applications in various vehicle types, enhancing their operational efficiency and performance. This trend is expected to continue as more manufacturers recognize the benefits of SiC technology.

As the demand for electric vehicles rises, the continued advancements in SiC technology will play a vital role in shaping the future of transportation, making electric vehicles more accessible and efficient for consumers.
