Shenzhen Introduces AI Robot Traffic Police to Manage Traffic and Enforce Safety Regulations
In Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China, a new type of traffic police has emerged—not human, but humanoid AI robots. These robots are not only responsible for directing traffic at intersections but also possess the capability to identify violations such as individuals not wearing helmets and promptly issue warnings.
According to reports from China’s Central Video, the robotic traffic police began operations on March 6 at the intersection of Wuhu Avenue and Yabao Road. They are designed to interact in real-time with traffic signals, coordinating their gestures with the traffic lights. Equipped with an AI recognition system in their eyes, these robots monitor the intersection’s conditions, detecting infractions like riders without helmets and vehicles crossing the stop line at red lights. In response, they emit warning sounds and broadcast messages to advise the public.
