Shenzhen Forum Highlights Photovoltaic Energy Transition and High-Quality Development of Green Buildings by 2025

Shenzhen

Focusing on the transformation of photovoltaic energy, the 2025 Shenzhen Forum on High-Quality Development of Green Buildings was held on the morning of May 17, centered on the theme of “Promoting Energy Transition, Empowering the Future of Green Buildings.” This forum took place during the 21st International Conference on Green Buildings and Building Energy Efficiency and the Hainan Low Carbon Resilience Urban and Rural Technology Expo (referred to as the “Green Expo”). The event was guided by the Green Building and Energy Saving Professional Committee of the China Urban Science Research Association, hosted by the Shenzhen Green Building Association, co-hosted by Shenzhen Kaisheng Technology Engineering Co., Ltd., and supported by various organizations within the green building and energy efficiency sectors of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Green Expo is an annual industry event in China focusing on green buildings and building energy efficiency. Shenzhen has organized delegations to participate in the event for several consecutive years, which has significantly contributed to advancing the development of green buildings and energy-saving industries in the city, while also establishing its image as a “green pioneer.” In recent years, the total area of green buildings in Shenzhen has exceeded 200 million square meters. The city is actively promoting the large-scale application of renewable energy products and technologies in the construction sector, developing several integrated building photovoltaic projects, and incorporating strategies to reduce carbon emissions through renewable energy into the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Green Building Regulations.

Taking advantage of the Green Expo, the forum focused on building photovoltaics as a key direction for energy transition in the construction sector. It closely examined Shenzhen’s practical exploration, addressing various aspects of the construction lifecycle from planning, design consultation, construction, operation and maintenance, to material innovation. This comprehensive discussion aimed to contribute wisdom and strength towards the widespread application and robust development of building photovoltaic technologies, thereby accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals in the construction field.

During the keynote session, several industry experts delivered insightful presentations. Guo Xiaoyan, Chief Engineer of Northeast Architectural Design Institute Co., Ltd., emphasized the development trends of electrical renewable energy in architecture, analyzing its significant role and value within the new energy sector. Ji Qiang, Chief Engineer of the Guangdong Provincial Building Energy Efficiency and Green Low Carbon Association, provided a data-driven analysis of the current state, challenges, and future opportunities for the integration of buildings and energy in China, unveiling the transformation logic of this trillion-yuan market.

Gan Shengbao, Director of the Design Research Institute at Shenzhen Kaisheng Technology Engineering Co., Ltd., detailed the mainstream structures and applications of building photovoltaics, discussing the unique properties of various photovoltaic materials and their expanded application scenarios, thus offering feasible measures for the green, low-carbon, and high-quality development of the construction industry. Yang Hongxing, a professor in the Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, explored the energy-saving effects and economic benefits of indirect evaporative cooling technology for commercial buildings in hot and humid climates. He Yufan, Senior Product Manager at Shenzhen Huabao New Energy Co., Ltd., introduced an innovative photovoltaic product developed by the company that combines curved design, aesthetics, reliable performance, and high efficiency, giving new aesthetic meaning to green power building materials and leading the trend of photovoltaic product innovation. Yao Jian, BIPV Director at LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd., shared application scenarios of integrated building photovoltaic technologies and offered insights into future technological paths and development prospects in this field, providing forward-looking thoughts for industry development.

The roundtable discussion was equally engaging, featuring experts such as Chen Zhu, General Manager of the Technology Department at Hong Kong Huayi Design Consultants (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., Zhang Ping, Chief Engineer of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Construction Energy Construction Group Co., Ltd., Sheng Chao, Deputy Chief Engineer of Shenzhen Stock Exchange Operations and Property Management Co., Ltd., Zhang Yi, Director of the Global Affairs Office at Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School and Associate Professor at the Future Habitat Research Institute, and Qiu Shaoteng, President of Shenzhen Lvdake Technology Co., Ltd. These experts discussed practical applications and future prospects of building photovoltaics, sparking insightful exchanges.

During the forum, the Inauguration Ceremony for the Building Photovoltaic Professional Committee of the Shenzhen Green Building Association was also held. Jian Aisen, President of the Shenzhen Green Building Association, presented the committee with its official plaque, and Shenzhen Kaisheng Technology Engineering Co., Ltd. was appointed as the leading unit. Director Gan Shengbao accepted the plaque on behalf of the committee in front of members and guests present. The establishment of the Building Photovoltaic Professional Committee signifies a concrete action and important initiative by the Shenzhen Green Building Association to respond positively to the “dual carbon” goals in the construction sector. Its purpose is to establish and improve the green building industry chain and enhance the association’s service level in the field of building photovoltaics, thereby providing strong support for the rapid and high-quality development of the green building industry.
