The 7th China Hydrogen Energy Development Summit and the 2025 China Hydrogen Energy Hundred People Conference Annual Forum were successfully held in Fuyang on May 15, 2025, against the backdrop of a global energy revolution and accelerated progress toward carbon neutrality. This event, organized by the China Industrial Gases Industry Association and the China Hydrogen Energy Supply and Utilization Hundred People Conference, aimed to further promote the comprehensive development of China’s hydrogen energy industry chain. The theme of this year’s conference was “Hydrogen for a Greener Future.”
The summit showcased three core highlights: collaborative innovation across the entire industry chain, in-depth dialogue between academia and industry, and demonstration of scenario-based applications. Nearly 100 representatives from over 70 organizations, including government departments, industry, and professional institutions, attended the conference.
In his opening speech, Xu Chungan, the Executive Vice President of the China Gas Association and Secretary General of the China Hydrogen Energy Supply and Utilization Hundred People Conference, emphasized that hydrogen energy, with its unique advantages and vast potential, is gradually becoming an essential force in driving energy transformation. He noted that with the release of the Energy Law of the People’s Republic of China, hydrogen energy has been explicitly included in the energy management framework for the first time. Furthermore, significant progress has been made on the national-level liquid hydrogen demonstration project in Fuyang, which is set to achieve operational status this year.
Xu further highlighted the need for the China Gas Association to enhance risk response capabilities in light of the “reciprocal tariffs” challenges posed by the United States. This includes advocating for a multilateral trade system to foster international consensus and strengthen the resilience of supply chains. The association has called upon all member enterprises and related sectors to accelerate the development of emerging markets in Southeast Asia and along the Belt and Road Initiative, leveraging technological innovation to overcome key technical barriers. Additionally, they aim to establish innovative coalitions across the upstream and downstream sectors to facilitate collaborative innovation and create a shared mechanism throughout the industry.
Through five collaborative actions—maintaining systems, strengthening the industry chain, expanding the market, overcoming technological challenges, and building an ecological framework—the association seeks to establish a community of shared interests within the industry, effectively countering unilateralism and driving China’s gas industry toward the high end of the global value chain for sustainable, high-quality development.
Li Jing, Deputy Director of the Fuyang Development and Reform Commission, praised Fuyang’s unique advantages, including its population, location, transportation, policies, and agricultural resources, which present significant opportunities for future development. He reported that the city has shown rapid growth and steady economic performance, aiming for a regional GDP of 33 billion in 2024. Li also mentioned Fuyang’s improvements in business environment, logistics efficiency, and talent retention, as well as initiatives to enhance innovation and industry integration, speeding up the development of the hydrogen energy industry chain from production to storage and application.
During the conference, several industry leaders and experts shared insights on nearly 20 topics, including hydrogen fuel cells, liquid hydrogen storage, hydrogen liquefaction, and hydrogen energy standards. These reports provided detailed data analysis and practical solutions for key segments of the hydrogen energy industry, particularly focusing on liquid hydrogen.
A roundtable discussion, moderated by Xu Chungan, featured experts such as Professor Wei Wei from Southeast University and Yang Baoying, Honorary President of CIMC Hydrogen Energy. They discussed the challenges and obstacles to rapid hydrogen energy development, export difficulties in hydrogen equipment, and strategies to break through industry stagnation. The discussions highlighted the importance of overcoming the low domestic production rate of core materials in hydrogen storage and transportation equipment, as well as addressing barriers to green hydrogen certification under the EU carbon tariff regulations.
On May 16, participants toured the self-developed 5 tons per day hydrogen liquefaction facility and the hydrogen refueling station, alongside a 400m³ liquid hydrogen storage tank by CIMC Hydrogen Energy. This visit confirmed China’s breakthroughs in the entire liquid hydrogen “production-storage-transportation-refueling” chain, marking a transition from demonstration projects to engineering application, and providing replicable technology models for low-cost hydrogen energy solutions.
