The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) has recently announced the introduction of two new standards aimed at enhancing consumer protection and improving operations and maintenance (O&M) for solar and storage projects. These standards, designated as ANSI/SEIA 401 and ANSI/SEIA 301, have received official approval from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). They represent SEIA’s commitment to establishing best practices regarding safety, quality, training, sales, and system maintenance within the solar industry.
The development of these standards involved a comprehensive, consensus-driven process that incorporated feedback from a diverse array of stakeholders, including installers, manufacturers, financiers, consumer advocates, national laboratories, and government entities. To facilitate widespread adoption, SEIA will launch a new online platform that will provide companies, consumers, and other stakeholders access to the complete suite of SEIA standards along with implementation tools. These resources are designed to assist businesses in seamlessly integrating the new standards into their operations.
Abigail Ross Hopper, president and CEO of SEIA, stated, “These standards mark a major step forward in professionalizing the solar and storage industry, boosting consumer confidence, and building a more resilient energy sector. By setting national standards for consumer protection, technician training, and installation and system maintenance, SEIA is ensuring that every customer receives the value and performance they expect. This initiative positions solar and storage as vital components of an affordable, reliable, and secure energy system.”
