Rooftop Green Energy: Successful Grid Connection of Distributed Photovoltaic Project at China’s Science and Technology City Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park
On the morning of April 11, the 8MWp rooftop distributed photovoltaic project at the China (Mianyang) Science and Technology City Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park successfully connected to the grid, achieving full operational status ahead of schedule. This project will provide stable and cost-effective green power to the companies within the park and marks a significant step towards the construction of a “zero-carbon park” in Mianyang High-tech Zone (directly managed area of the Science and Technology City).
As reporters entered the Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park, they observed that the enterprises and production lines were operating efficiently. On the rooftop of one of the buildings, rows of deep blue photovoltaic panels were neatly arranged, continuously converting sunlight into green electricity.
The project utilizes the rooftop resources of 25 standardized factory buildings within the park, featuring a total of 12,512 N-type bifacial double-glass high-efficiency photovoltaic modules, with a total installed capacity of approximately 8MWp on the DC side. “The project system includes intelligent operation and maintenance, as well as remote real-time monitoring capabilities. Through rooftop photovoltaics combined with smart inverter technology, it establishes an ‘on-site consumption with surplus electricity fed back to the grid’ operational model,” explained Wang Weida, General Manager of Sichuan GCL Jintian New Energy Co., Ltd.
Once operational, the project is expected to generate an average of 6.71 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by around 5,455 tons annually, which is equivalent to planting 318,000 trees each year. “In the next phase, we will also integrate energy storage and charging technologies to seamlessly connect with electric vehicles and energy supply networks in the park, creating a closed-loop ecosystem of generation, storage, and consumption,” he added.
As one of the key industrial platforms in Mianyang Science and Technology City, the Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park hosts a number of high-quality enterprises in fields such as electronic information and new materials, which have urgent needs for energy security and cost control. The implementation of this project is not only an exploration of green development but will also further assist Mianyang High-tech Zone in building a “zero-carbon park.”
“With the official operation of this project, it can provide long-term stable green power to enterprises in the park. Companies utilizing the photovoltaic system can save approximately 10% on their electricity costs, effectively alleviating peak electricity demand while reducing carbon emissions and enhancing overall energy efficiency,” stated Lv Bin, Chairman of Mianyang New Emerging Asset Management Co., Ltd. He added that the project promotes comprehensive improvements in carbon management, smart operations, and ecological brand building in the park. In the future, distributed photovoltaic projects will also be developed in the Mianyang Comprehensive Bonded Zone, China (Mianyang) Science and Technology City New Display Industrial Park, and the Cross-border E-commerce Industrial Park, exploring more renewable energy application scenarios, and creating a stable, green, and intelligent energy usage environment for enterprises in the region. This initiative will inject strong momentum into the green and low-carbon transformation of the regional energy structure.
