Longzhi Robot Shines at Sanya Spring Festival Grocery Fair

On February 7, the “Shopping in Sanya, Full Throttle” 2026 Spring Festival Grocery Fair kicked off at the Dadonghai Square in Sanya. During the opening ceremony, traditional calligraphy was showcased alongside advanced technology, featuring the full-sized humanoid robot “Xiao Zhi” who wrote the character for “blessing,” captivating a large audience of locals and tourists. This event was a major highlight of the Sanya Spring Festival Grocery Fair.

At the event, the silver and black “Xiao Zhi” confidently held a brush, dipping it in ink and moving it smoothly across the paper to create well-formed and powerful characters. The sight drew many spectators who eagerly took photos. Numerous parents brought their children to experience the charm of technology up close, expressing that seeing a robot write calligraphy at the fair was both novel and festive, adding a futuristic touch to traditional celebrations.

The full-sized humanoid robot “Xiao Zhi” is developed by Longzhi Embodied Intelligence (Hainan) Technology Co., Ltd. According to solutions engineer Yu Yingkai, this robot’s primary functions include guiding, welcoming, interacting, and conducting research, with the calligraphy demonstration being a secondary application developed based on its core capabilities.

“The character ‘福’ (blessing) embodies the beautiful wishes of the Spring Festival and is a well-loved symbol of the celebration. By incorporating writing this character as an engaging activity, we aim to bridge the gap between the public and embodied intelligence, reducing the unfamiliarity people may have with robots,” said Yu Yingkai. He added that the event allowed residents and visitors to immerse themselves in the fun of technology and feel the festive blessings, while also demonstrating the practical applications of robots in real scenarios, making cutting-edge technology accessible and relatable.

During the Sanya Spring Festival Grocery Fair, in addition to writing blessings at the opening ceremony, robot “Xiao Zhi” also roamed the event, engaging with visitors. Yu Yingkai mentioned that the atmosphere was lively, with enthusiastic interactions. Attendees communicated with Xiao Zhi through voice commands and took photos together, with many inquiring about the robot’s features and potential future applications in households, reflecting a strong public interest in the field of embodied intelligence.

Longzhi Embodied Intelligence (Hainan) Technology Co., Ltd., located in Sanya’s Digital Economy Industrial Park, focuses on the secondary development and application of robotics and operates Hainan’s only innovation center for embodied intelligence. The center plans to open for public reservations in the future, offering educational and experiential activities about robots, allowing more people to learn about the development of the embodied intelligence industry.

Mr. Chen, a local citizen, expressed his enjoyment of the Sanya Spring Festival Grocery Fair, stating, “There are global products and technological surprises; it’s been a great experience.” He shared that the event featured everything from the robot writing “福” to traditional Sichuan opera face-changing, local vinegar to imported chocolates, illustrating a perfect blend of tradition and modernity, as well as local and international offerings.

The Sanya Spring Festival Grocery Fair is organized by the Sanya Municipal Bureau of Commerce and hosted by Nanhai Net, centered around the theme “Global Selection, Hainan Features, Enjoyed by All.” It features nine unique zones and three experiential flows, showcasing high-quality products from around the world alongside Hainan’s finest goods. Additionally, the Sanya Municipal Bureau of Commerce implemented a “one main venue plus multiple business districts” model, creating a one-stop shopping platform for residents and visitors to enjoy a variety of experiences during the Spring Festival, thereby energizing the local economy.
